Lyric Stage, Dallas County's only locally produced professional musical theater company, presents THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, October 29 - November 7 in the Irving Arts Center's Carpenter Performance Hall. Performances are October 29, 30 and November 4, 5 & 6 @ 8:00 PM and October 31 and November 7 @ 2:30 PM. Tickets are available online @ ww.lyricstage.org or by calling the box office @ 972-252-2787. Ben Harper steals ten thousand dollars. Just before being sent to prison he hides the money in his daughter's doll, setting in motion a thrilling, frightening, and heartfelt story. For sharing Ben's prison cell is Harry Powell, aka The Preacher, who will do anything to get his hands on the stolen money. Anything, including murder. In 1954, Davis Grubb's southern gothic tale THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER hit the New York Times Best Seller list and stayed there for several weeks. The 1955 film version directed by Charles Laughton (his only time behind the camera) and starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters has gone on to be named one of the 100 greatest films of the 20th Century. Now Stephen Cole (book & lyrics) and Claibe Richardson (music) have adapted Grubb's novel into a musical thriller. Lyric Stage is proud to present this great new American musical, winner of the prestigious Edward Kleban Award, with a full orchestra. Davis Gaines will star as The Preacher (Mitchum) opposite Theatre World Award winner Julie Johnson as Willa Harper (Winters). Cheryl Denson will direct Lyric Stage's production with music direction by Scott A. Eckert. While this production borrows its title from a childish poem, it should by no means be mistaken for children's entertainment, and in fact, an early scene's full-frontal male nudity audibly takes the full house at Fells Point Corner Theatre by surprise. But the adult content shares quite a few themes with the nursery rhymes and fables that underscore our childhood: It's all about the pursuit of happiness and how our success or failure in that quest hinges on our decisions. Although operetta wasn't completely on its way out when Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II brought Music In The Air to Broadway in 1932, the popularity of the genre was indeed waning a bit as jazzy and witty scores by the likes of George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and Cole Porter dominated the decade's theatre music. Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) Theatre For Young Audiences proudly presents GOODNIGHT MOON (Book, Music and Lyrics by Chad Henry. Based on the book Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, Illustrated by Clement Hurd. Adapted from GOODNIGHT MOON. (c) 1947 Harper & Row. Text (c) renewed 1975 by Roberta Brown Rauch. Illustrations (c) renewed 1975 by Edith Hurd, Clement Hurd, John Thacher and George Hellyer, as trustees of the Edith & Clement Hurd 1982 Trust. Used by permission of HarperCollins Publishers. Adaptation by Chad Henry (c) 2006) on stage at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre January 14-30, 2011. Performances are Fridays at 7:30PM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2PM. With direction by Andrew Crusse, choreography by Alicia Grubb and musical direction by Natalie True, GOODNIGHT MOON stars P. J. McKINNIE, ANNA TOUJAS ROSENBERG, ADLER HYATT, MICAH RICHERAND DESONIER and ALLEE PECK. Tickets are $15 for Kids, $20 for Students/Seniors and $25 for Adults.
