Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles - 2010 - Broadway History , Info & More

As “the next best thing to seeing The Beatles!” (Denver Post), RAIN performs the full range of The Beatles' discography live onstage, including the most complex and challenging songs that The Beatles themselves recorded in the studio but never performed for an audience. From the early days of their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 through Sgt. Pepper and on to the Abbey Road years, RAIN performs it all. The multi-media concert recaptures the era through all phases of The Beatles astounding musical career including Shea Stadium, the psychedelic late 60s and the long-haired hippie, hard-rocking rooftop days. A fusion of historical footage and hilarious television commercials lights up video screens and live cameras zoom in for close-ups.

The acclaimed Beatles concert RAIN – A Tribute To The Beatles on Broadway at The Neil Simon Theatre moved to The Brooks Atkinson Theatre and began performances on February 8, 2011. RAIN had previously been extended twice, playing its final performance at The Neil Simon Theatre on Saturday, January 15, 2011.

FEATURED REVIEWS FOR Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles

I've Just Seen a Face: Rain, Diving Miss Daisy, Spirit Control, Wings and Lombardi
8 / 10

Indeed, Rain might well be the brilliantly empty apotheosis of the jukebox musical: the songs it knows the audience wants to hear, unencumbered by a script that may or may not work. Without its plot, Good Vibrations would have been a pleasant night of cute kids in bathing suits singing Beach Boys hits. Ring of Fire, one of the small handful of shows I've fled at intermission, would have been just a Johnny Cash revue. This drama-free exercise is not, then, a play. And it's debatable whether it's really worth spending $121.50 for an orchestra seat to what by all rights you should be seeing in a bar.

Phony Beatles Trample Fab Four in Soggy 'Rain'
1 / 10

There is dumbed-down, Monty Python-style animation, trippy lighting recalling the Joshua Light Show and the inevitable wig and costume changing. There is even, occasionally, a bit of singing to remind us of the power of the Lennon/McCartney partnership. Primarily, however, 'Rain' is a Vegas act for All Hallow's Eve -- a rock horror show.
