Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, a professional theatre ensemble in residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, was recently honored by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance at its Curtain Call Awards for the company's 20-year history and for its achievements in bringing the community together with its focus on telling life-affirming stories relevant to the lives we live today. At the November 2 event, Dreamcatcher also received a Resolution from the Union county Board of Chosen Freeholders recognizing its contribution to the cultural life of the region. (more...)

Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's RED VELVET just released behind-the-scenes pictures today! The production, which originally premiered at the Tricycle Theatre in 2012 before transferring to St Ann's Warehouse in New York in 2014, is the third play in the inaugural Plays at the Garrick season and will play at the Garrick Theatre from 23 January until 27 February 2016. RED VELVET is written by Lolita Chakrabarti with direction by Indhu Rubasingham and stars Adrian Lester as Ira Aldridge. Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University invites Downton Abbey fans to celebrate the acclaimed television show's final episode at a lavish event - a Downton Abbey Ball!  To be held Sunday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium at Kean's STEM Building, next to Liberty Hall, the ball includes a formal dinner, music and dancing as well as a private showing of the final Downton Abbey episode as it airs on PBS. Guests are encouraged to get into the spirit of the ball by dressing in period costumes or coming as their favorite character.  Get tickets early because, like the museum's popular Downton Abbey Luncheons, the ball is expected to be sold out! Kean Arts Advocacy Award will be conferred upon The Actors Fund and its President and Chief Executive Officer, Joseph P. Benincasa, by the former Governor himself.  The inaugural award was given to Governor Kean in 1990 and was named in his honor to pay tribute to an individual, corporation or foundation whose dedication to the arts enhances the cultural life of the citizens of New Jersey. Where are you from? I was born in the Isle of Man, which is an island in between England and Ireland. I've kind of lived in a couple of places in the UK, but I basically grew up in a place called Guernsey which is a Channel Island. It has a lot of history - being occupied by the Nazis during WWII.  It was a great place to grow up. It was great for me as a creative because it's a small island but has a large population.
