Playwrights Theatre Announces 2014 New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest Winners

Playwrights Theatre is pleased to announce the winners of the 31st Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest. From the 470 plays submitted by young writers throughout the state, a panel of theatre professionals has selected four High School plays, three Junior High School plays and four Elementary Schools plays. In each category, selection was blind; plays were selected without knowledge of playwrights' schools, grade or background. The 31st Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest Festival will be held on June 2 and 3, 2014, as part of a partnership between Playwrights Theatre and Premiere Stages at Kean University. Select plays from this festival may be reprised at Playwrights Theatre's nationally-recognized Forum Reading Series in December 2014. Premiere Stages at Kean University will launch its much-anticipated 10th Anniversary Season with a free staged reading of Vincent Delaney's fascinating new play, The Ansel Intimacy, June 20 - 22 in Kean's Murphy Dunn Theatre. Selected from over 400 submissions, The Ansel Intimacy is the first of two scripts scheduled for expanded development as part of the 2014 Premiere Stages Play Festival. According to BBC News, Kelly passed away this morning after being admitted to a hospice. Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University will offer an interactive tour of the museum specifically geared for children ages 7 - 12 throughout the summer. In A Child's View of History, offered Tuesdays and Thursdays now through August 28 (11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.), young people will step back in time and see the museum through the eyes of its youngest former occupants: the children who resided at Liberty Hall over the past 240 years. Each room will feature a variety of artifacts children are welcome to touch, and tours will also include outdoor games, activities and light refreshments.
