The story is about a prince and princess from two different kingdoms who were wed at infancy. While the prince anxiously anticipates meeting his now 21 year old bride, she has started a women's university, preaching the virtues of woman over man, and that 'man is nature's sole mistake'. When Princess Ida does not show up as agreed upon, Prince Hilarion and a couple of friends infiltrate the university as new students, and hilarity ensues. The two kings threaten war to solve the problem, the prince offers love. Ida must decide whether she can continue her noble experiment. (more...)

Dominic Chianese has long been a man of many talents. While he is best known to most for his role as Corrado 'Junior' Soprano on 'The Sopranos,' he is an accomplished singer and guitarist. He has released two albums and performed live throughout his remarkable acting career, which includes roles in numerous films and TV shows, and on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages. Chianese will make his Cafe Carlyle debut April 2 in An Evening with Dominic Chianese, which will also feature guitarist Mark Sica and and a pianist TBA. Chianese will perform songs running the gambit of American music, from country to the Great American Songbook, as well as standards in Italian and Spanish. (more...)

Thomas returns to NJSO stages after his performance of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestra in January. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jacques Lacombe present Verdi's mammoth Requiem today, April 3-6 in Newark, New Brunswick and Morristown with soprano Marianne Fiset, mezzo-soprano Janara Kellerman, tenor Russell Thomas, bass Peter Volpe and the Montclair State University Chorale. Thomas returns to NJSO stages after his performance of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestra in January. The April 5 performance at the State Theatre in New Brunswick is the NJSO's third College Night event of the season. (more...)

Candid Concert Opera Chicago presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte. An ingenious mix of poignant drama and hilarious farce, Così fan tutte follows two young soldiers who disguise their identities to test their lover's fidelity. The opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Two performances only, May 9 at the Stan Mansion, 2408 N. Kedzie Avenue and May 10 at Edgebrook Lutheran Church, 5252 W. Devon Avenue.
