BroadwayWord sat down with Educational Theatre Association's Musical Theatre Teacher of the Year Matthew Wolfe to discuss winning this award, his thoughts on creating a safe, inclusive theatre department, and his hopes for his future, as well as the future of his students and program.

Writers behind some of the most critically acclaimed works over the last year were honoured at the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Awards 2023 ceremony, including Aamina Ahmad, David Edgar, Vivienne Franzmann, Rebecca Hall, Katie Hims, Adam Kay, Neil McKay, and Ben Power.

Her Mozart is lyrical, lush, secure and dynamic, with a forceful top range and fluid technique that makes her vocality perfect for a role such as Donna Anna, which has challenged sopranos over the past two centuries. Yet soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea showed her versatility when she won immense kudos for her 2019 Seattle Opera debut in a much gentler role, that of Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen.

For Bloomsday 2019, Irish actress Eilin O'Dea will perform 'Molly Bloom by James Joyce,' the American premiere of her tour de force rendition of Joyce's best known and most complex female character.  Shows will be June 13-15 and 19-22 at The Theater at 244, 244 West 54th Street (10 fl.) and June 16 as part of 'Bloomsday on Broadway XXXVIII' at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre of Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street.  The performance, lifted verbatim from the Penelope episode of 'Ulysses,' has brought O'Dea critical acclaim in Ireland and Europe for her no-holds-barred, candid look into Molly Bloom's whirling mind.

Eugene O'Neill's Hughie opened last week at The Theatre Centre, and it is the inaugural presentation of the new Alley Theatre Workshop. Director David Ferry and actor Michael Kash spoke withe BWW about why they chose this particular piece, and about why it is relevant in today's troubling times.
