The Colony Theatre Achieves First Fundraising Goal; THE MORINI STRAD to Open on Schedule, 11/17

The Colony Theatre today announced that it has achieved the first goal of its emergency "Save the Colony" campaign by raising $49,000 in ten days so that it can open THE MORINI STRAD as scheduled on November 17th. However, the award-winning theatre company still must raise $500,000 by year's end to continue serving the region. (more...)

Noted scholars will join combat veterans who have been involved in the project to discuss the themes of the play as they relate to the experience of the veteran community in America today and the wider society within which they live. Virginia Rep to Present OLYMPUS ON MY MIND, 1/31-3/16

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Olympus on My Mind on Friday, January 31 at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Road. The show runs through Sunday, March 16. This contemporary musical comedy retells the Greek Amphitryon legend where Jupiter comes to Earth in human form to woo beautiful Alcmene, wife of Amphitryon. Jupiter appears to her in the body of her absent husband and quickly wins her love. Things go swimmingly until the real Amphitryon returns from war. This production is one part of the Acts of Faith Festival. First produced Off- Broadway in 1986, the book and lyrics are by Barry Harman with music by Grant Sturiale. Olympus on My Mind won an Outer Critics Award for Best Lyrics and received three Drama Desk nominations. (more...)

Hartford Stage Announces THE TEMPEST to Close 48th Season

Shakespeare's final play, The Tempest, will be the final MainStage production of Hartford Stage's 48th season. The selection is the first by Hartford Stage's new Artistic Director, Darko Tresnjak, who partners with Managing Director Mike Stotts to lead the Tony Award-winning theatre. Tresnjak will direct the production, which will run at Hartford Stage May 10 - June 3, 2012; it will be his 21st professional Shakespeare production. (more...)
