Village Theatre Announces Directors & Music Directors For 30th Anniversary Season

Village Theatre is pleased to announce the directors and music directors for next season's highly anticipated theatre line up. Artistic director Steve Tomkins gave his directorial debut at Village Theatre in the 1988. This upcoming season marks his seventeenth season with Village Theatre, after having been nominated for an NAACP Award for his work in a Los Angeles production of the new musical City Kid. Tomkins is set to direct three of next season's musical productions.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will present the final reading in the Gurfein Foundation/Ntozake Shange Play Reading Series: Derek Walcott's new play Marie Laveau, with music by Galt MacDermot. The reading will take place Sunday, June 28th at 3pm, at Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). Clinton Turner Davis directs a cast that features Arthur Bartow, Trazana Beverley, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Gerard Catus, Lia Chaing, DK Dyson, Stu Richel, Martin Shakar, and Marie Thomas as Marie Laveau.

The latest Cirque du Soleil touring show, KOOZA, proudly presented by iShares, will premiere under the Grand Chapiteau in New York at Randall's Island Park on Thursday, April 16, 2009 for a limited engagement. KOOZA is the 10th big top show from Cirque du Soleil to perform in New York since 1988. KOOZA, which premiered in Montreal, Cirque du Soleil's home base, in April of 2007, has been touring North America since, having played engagements in such cities as San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto and Philadelphia to rave reviews and sold-out big tops. Robert Hurwitt in The San Francisco Chronicle called KOOZA 'breath-taking and heart-stopping,' adding. 'KOOZA is Cirque du Soleil at the top of its form.' Producer Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and co-producers Tulchin/Bartner/Jenkins, Bill Kenwright, Northwater Entertainment, Darren Bagert, and Tom Gregory announced the complete cast and design team for the new Broadway production of the greatest musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS. The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street).
