Tom Stoppard's comedic tour-de-force "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" turns "Hamlet" on its head, telling the tale from the bewildered perspective of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters in Shakespeare's tragedy. As the befuddled duo struggle to keep up with the events around them, they become increasingly aware of the possibility that they might just be fictional characters.

The Acting Company Announces Upcoming Season

"John Rando (Urinetown, A Christmas Story, Lincoln Centers's Carousel, All in the Timing) will direct Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead for The Acting Company," announced its producer, Margot Harley. Tom Stoppard's TONY-winning play will run off-Broadway in rotating repertory with Hamlet, directed by Ian Belknap,beginning in January 2014. Prior to New York, Hamlet will play a fall tour of western states beginning at Cal State-Northridge. A national tour of both plays, including an extended stay at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, begins in February. This is the 41st season and tour for The Acting Company, the sixth tour in association with the Guthrie. (more...)

The Old Globe's TWELFTH NIGHT Will Tour Schools

Recognizing the importance of exposure to the arts in the development and education of young people, The Old Globe today announced a special hour-long production of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night that will tour San Diego County middle and high schools. This imaginative, fun and accessible production is an ideal introduction to the wonders of Shakespeare. The production, which will tour from April 22 through May 17, 2013, is now available for booking and will cost schools $500 for one performance and $400 for a second performance at the same school on the same day. Discounts and scholarships are available to Title One schools. The Globe's tour of Twelfth Night, directed by Nelson Eusebio III, is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, a new musical comedy with book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak and lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak. Former Old Globe Co-Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak returns to the Globe to direct the production. Based on the novel Israel Rank by Roy Horniman, the musical also features choreography by Peggy Hickey. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder will run March 8 - April 14, 2013 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.
