In the crisp, morning hours on December 27, 2012 I got the chance to speak with Lara Teeter, who will be playing Cap'n Andy in the upcoming production of SHOW BOAT at Houston Grand Opera. The celebrated actor had a plethora of interesting and scholarly items to discuss about SHOW BOAT, and the character of Cap'n Andy. We also had a good time discussing his career as an actor, director, choreographer, and teacher.

Surflight Theatre, under the leadership of Ken Myers, Executive Director, has announced the theater's 64th Season of 'Broadway at the Beach' - the theater's 2013 season of musicals and plays kicks off April 23 through May with a TBA musical revue, the Tony-winning comedy thriller Sleuth (May 7-19), The Boy Friend (May 24 - June 16), George M! (June 19 - July 7), Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific (July 10 - 28), You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (August 21 - September 8), Our Town (September 25 - October 6), and Irving Berlin's White Christmas (December 3 - 22).

It's a genuine pleasure to be reminded that each Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is a masterpiece, at a 305-seat theater in Orem, Utah. At the Hale Center Theater Orem staging, "South Pacific" is an enchanting evening.

There is a rare kind of production where each element is so in synch, so finely tuned that this particular production eclipses other casts, other interpretations, and goes on to be considered a defining moment in the history of that show, and indeed of musical theatre itself. The current Australian production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic SOUTH PACIFIC is that rare and beautiful kind.

Delaware Theatre Company has announced a change in its line-up for the 2012-2013 season. Just yesterday the theatre announced a partnership with members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra for a Spring 2013 production of SOUTH PACIFIC. Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical will replace MY FAIR LADY as the conclusion to its 12-13 season, and will run from April 10-May 5, 2013.

The Gary-The Olivia Performing Arts Center will present "South Pacific," the award-winning Rodgers and Hammerstein musical based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize winning book, "Tales of the South Pacific," in six performances over the first three weekends in August.

Since last October 2011, the most acclaimed production ever of Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC has been thrilling audiences and breaking records in theatres across the UK, playing to well over half a million people, becoming the best-selling show of the Season in venues including Wimbledon and Stoke-on-Trent, and the best-selling two-week musical ever to play in Glasgow and Milton Keynes.

Though the playing was fierce, as the cast and crew of Pacific put on an earth-shattering revival of the great Rodgers and Hammerstein theatrical hit. It was, without a doubt, 'Some Enchanted Evening.'

Lakewood Theatre Company will celebrate its 60th anniversary season with six productions on its Mainstage and three productions on its Side Door stage beginning July 13, 2012. Today in 2008, the first Broadway revival of South Pacific opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, where it ran for 996 performances. South Pacific is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan. The musical centers on an American nurse stationed at a U.S. Naval base during World War II who falls in love with an expatriate French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-race children. A second romance concerns a U.S. Lieutenant who falls in love with a young Asian woman. The musical premiered in 1949 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950.

As previously announced, OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II - OUT OF MY DREAMS will premiere on PBS stations beginning tonight (check local listings).

With a score that features some of the most beloved songs from the Rodgers and Hammerstein catalogue and a book that some would argue was ahead of its time when the show debuted on Broadway in 1949, South Pacific represents a weighty undertaking for any theatrical troupe, whether on Broadway or on tour. And with the NETWorks tour headed to Nashville for an eight-performance run at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall, much of that responsibility falls to Katie Reid, who plays Ensign Nellie Forbush, and Sarna Lapine, who's charged with recreating Bartlett Sher's Tony Award-winning direction for the national tour.

PBS announced today that OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II - OUT OF MY DREAMS will premiere on PBS stations beginning March 3, 2012 (check local listings). Hosted by Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominated Matthew Morrison (Glee), who starred in the 2008 Tony-winning revival of South Pacific as Lieutenant Cable, the film is a celebration of the most acclaimed lyricist and librettist of the 20th century, the man who worked in the theater for over 40 years, writing the lyrics for over a thousand songs and the libretti for dozens of operettas and musicals performed on Broadway, in London and in Hollywood films.
