Pee-Wee's Broadway Show Gets DVD Release This Fall

(OTCQB: DISK) has acquired the home entertainment rights to THE PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW ON BROADWAY and will be releasing it on Blu-rayTM and DVD in the fall in honor of the 25th Anniversary of Pee-wee's Playhouse. Opening to critical acclaim at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Nov. 11, 2010, 'The Pee-wee Herman Show' is 90 minutes of subversive humor and childlike wonder based on both Reubens' original stage show, 'The Pee-wee Herman Show,' and the Emmy-winning Saturday morning TV show, 'Pee-wee's Playhouse,' which became a cultural phenomenon. The New York Times called the new Broadway show 'yummier than chocolate,' New York Magazine said, 'Welcome back, Pee-wee! You were sorely missed,' and the New York Post noted, 'The audience screams for joy!' The announcement was made by Image Entertainment's Chief Acquisition Officer, Bill Bromiley. (more...)

Susan Stroman to Direct Broadway-Bound BIG FISH Musical Adaptation

The New York Times reports today that Susan Stromen will direct a musical adaptation of Tim Burton's film, Big Fish. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Hugh Jackman and Laura Benanti recently participated in a reading of the show. The musical is aiming for a spring 2012 Broadway opening. No word from the Times if either Jackman or Benanti are confirmed for the project. Additional creative team members have yet to be announced. (more...)

REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) announces preliminary program highlights for RADAR L.A., an international festival of contemporary theater running June 14-20. The festival is produced by REDCAT in collaboration with Center Theatre Group and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival (New York), and a consortium including Theatre Communications Group, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, LA Stage Alliance and the Los Angeles Theatre Center. $50 multi-event passes go on sale in April and will allow audiences to attend performances for as little as $10. Hoebee- Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre have ignited the careers of many notable performers, all of whom attended high school in New Jersey. Among the early nominees and winners are Academy Award® nominee Anne Hathaway, Tony® award winner Laura Benanti, and 2011 Tony® nominee, Nikki M. James. Paper Mill Playhouse hosted the 16th Annual Rising Star Awards- Presented by the Investors Savings Bank Foundation on Tuesday, June 7th at the Millburn Theater.
