New Jersey Theatres Join Forces to Rebuild the Grand

After eighty-six years, the Grand Theater - home of The Road Company since 1976 - literally fell silent on May 14, 2010 when its roof collapsed, destroying the entire venue. This was a devastating tragedy for theater-goers throughout the Delaware Valley and, in particular, hit Southern New Jersey with significant impact - the 'home' that many actors, actresses, volunteers, and audiences once held close to their hearts, was gone. After evaluating the damage, it was discovered that approximately $250,000 would be needed, beyond the amount covered by insurance, to rebuild the Grand Theater, founded in 1924. Despite this daunting figure the ever-resilient Road Company family was determined to rebuild the theater and in doing so established the 'Make It Grand Again Campaign' fund. (more...)

2010 marked the year the legendary American Composer Stephen Sondheim had his 80th Birthday, and there were many celebrations in his honour. The last one was a celebration at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops under the direction of Steven Reineke. Kate Baldwin, Christiane Noll, Aaron Lazar and Alex Gemignani came out to sing the music and honour the man, and BWW featured interviews with each of them before the show. A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Vista resident and San Diego theatre icon Sandra Ellis-Troy for Monday, December 13 at 4:00 pm at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista. The memorial is open to the public. Sandra Ellis-Troy passed away in her sleep sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 4. Sandra was visiting her large family of children and grandchildren for the holidays near San Francisco. (more...)

Neil Patrick Harris Joins New York Philharmonic for COMPANY Concert, 4/7-4/9

The New York Philharmonic will present Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking Company, with an all-star cast led by Neil Patrick Harris, star of the hit television series, How I Met Your Mother, on April 7-9, 2011. The award-winning musical will be produced and directed by Lonny Price, who directed and co-produced last season's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert!, and will be conducted by Sondheim specialist Paul Gemignani, with the original orchestrations for a 35-piece orchestra by Jonathan Tunick.
