MTC MainStage to Present THE FANTASTICKS, 4/11-5/4

Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage, Fairfield County's award-winning professional theatre company, concludes its 2013/2014 Season with 'The Fantasticks' a musical with book by Tom Jones, music by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones and based on 'Les Romanesques' by Edmond Rostand. Performances are April 11 - May 4, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with matinees Saturdays at 4pm and Sundays at 2pm, at MTC MainStage Studio Theatre, 246 Post Road East (Colonial Green/Lower Level) in downtown Westport, CT. Town Hall Arts Center to Present SPRING AWAKENING, 4/11-5/4

The next production in Town Hall Arts Center's 2013-2014 Season will be Spring Awakening, Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater, music by Duncan Sheik, based on the play by Frank Wedekind. Spring Awakening is directed and choreographed by Nick Sugar, Henry Award winning director of Town Hall's 2012 production of The Who's Tommy and 2010 Henry Award winning production of RENT, and most recently seen directing and choreographing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for Town Hall this past fall. Returning for a second show in the 2013-2014 Season is Casey Andree as Melchior Gabor, most recently seen at Town Hall in Boeing-Boeing as Robert. Also returning to Town Hall, Heather Doris takes on the role of Wendla Bergmann. Heather was most recently seen at Town Hall in Oklahoma (2009) and Guys and Dolls (2010). Making his Town Hall debut is Jake Brasch as Moritz Stiefel. (more...)

SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS, written by Richard Alfieri, with choreography by Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line) and directed by Michael Arabian (Waiting for Godot). SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS will also feature 6-time Ovation Award-winning actor David Engel. Greater Austin High School Musical Theater Awards Set for the Long Center, 4/17

It will be a night of firsts for performing arts in Austin, Texas! The First Annual Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards (GAHSMTA) will be held at the Long Center, April 17 at 7:30pm. Not only will it be the first large scale project fully produced in-house by Austin's iconic performing arts venue on Lady Bird Lake, but also it will be the first time the Long Center has partnered with ZACH Theatre and The University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts. Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for Alan Ayckbourn's science fiction comedy Communicating Doors. Eleven plays penned by Alan Ayckbourn have been produced by the Alley, including the American premiere of Henceforward, directed by Ayckbourn, in 1987 and House & Garden in 2002. Alan Ayckbourn has been inducted into the American Theatre's Hall of Fame, received the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Services to the Arts, became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards and was knighted in 1997 for services to the theatre.
