The San Francisco Arts Education Project (SFArtsED) celebrates the ninth year of its musical theater company, The SFArtsED Players, with performances of Broadway's Pulitzer Prize winning, Fiorello! at San Francisco's Eureka Theatre (215 Jackson Street, between Front and Battery) for a three-week engagement beginning Friday, February 5 and continuing through Saturday, February 20.

1959 was a heck of a good year for Broadway overtures. The majestic trumpet fanfare and lowdown bump and grind of Gypsy's is generally regarded as the best in musical theatre, but there was also the rousingly rhythmic curtain-raiser to Fiorello! and, my personal favorite, Philip J. Lang's beautiful interpretation of Bob Merrill's music for Take Me Along, which touches on so many moods of the show while continually building the toe-tapping climax of The catchy title tune.

The play is based on legendary New York City mayor Fiorello La Guardia who, with passion and grit, changed the face of New York City. With the overwhelming audience response to the show, and in celebration of Fiorello La Guardia's birthday, December 11th, Lo Bianco will extend the hit show from December 4th through December 13th for the holiday season.
