Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Boublil and Schonberg's "Les Miserables" has music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer from the original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and additional material by James Fenton. Last night, September 27, the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival celebrated its official opening night, hosted by Baz Lurhmann. Some of the many guests on hand to celebrate were Claire Danes ('Romeo + Juliet', 'The Hours'), Anthony Rapp (Rent), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), Tamara Tunie (Law and Order: SVU), Kerry Butler (Xanadu), Liz Larsen (The Most Happy Fella), Liz McCartney (Taboo), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Tom Hewitt (The Rocky Horror Show), Max Von Essen (Les Miserables), Curtis Holbrook (West Side Story), Chip Zien (Into the Woods), Diedre Goodwin (Chicago), and many more.
Cameron Mackintosh's current touring production of Les Miserables will run at London's Barbican Theatre, it's English-language birthplace in 1985, for 22 performances through October 2, 2010. A Queens Theatre staple for nearly 22 years in the West End, this new run will mark the first time in London that the same musical has run simultaneously.
