Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will lead the New York Philharmonic on the EUROPE/SPRING 2011 tour, May 12-24, 2011. The tour - the fourth with Mr. Gilbert as Music Director - will take the Orchestra to musical capitals of Central Europe, with eleven concerts in nine cities: Basel, Switzerland; Baden-Baden and Munich, Germany; Vienna, Austria; Budapest, Hungary; Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig, Germany; and Prague, Czech Republic. Although Mr.
Gilbert has a long history conducting in Europe, and has taken the Orchestra on two previous European tours, this will be his first appearances in all nine cities as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic.

at a black-tie dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. The Asia Society's Annual Awards Dinner recognizes extraordinary individuals who have contributed to promoting understanding between Asians and Americans. The Philharmonic is being cited for its bridge-building concerts across the globe, particularly its historic concert in Pyongyang, DPRK, in February 2008, and its debut in Hanoi, Vietnam, in October 2009. At the dinner, two members of the Philharmonic - Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim and violist Vivik Kamath - will perform two works, including the well-known Korean folk song, Arirang, which they played with the Orchestra in Pyongyang.
Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe and Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate Levin today unveiled a new plaque at the TKTS booth in Duffy Square, honoring the site's history and recent restorations, while also lauding the efforts of Mayor John V. Lindsay. Mayor Lindsay was a passionate supporter of the Broadway Theatre and was instrumental in the creation of the original TKTS booth with the Theatre Development Fund in 1973, making Duffy Square ever since a destination point for those in search of reduced-price theater tickets. Also in attendance at today's unveiling were State Assembly Member Richard Gottfried; Broadway producer Hal Prince, who is Chair of the Theatre Industry Committee to Honor John Lindsay; as well as leaders of the Times Square Alliance, Theatre Development Fund, Broadway League, Broadway Association, and members of Mayor Lindsay's family.

Commencing with a free concert at Auer Hall Oct. 5 at 8 p.m., Janette Fishell, chair of the Organ Department at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, will present 'The Seasons of Sebastian: The solo works of Johann Sebastian Bach,' a three-year cycle of 21 free, open-to-the-public Bach organ performances that take place at various locations on campus and churches in the Bloomington community. The works are organized into 'secular' -- the seasons of Bach's life, performed on the IU campus -- and the 'spiritual' seasons of his faith, performed at area churches, with some 'cross-pollination' to keep each concert as artistically significant as possible.

On Thursday, August 5, the 32nd annual Seaside Summer Concert Series at Asser Levy/Seaside Park, hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, will welcome singer, songwriter and actor John Legend, who performed at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series in 2008. The Seaside Summer Concert Series at Coney Island and Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series in Crown Heights/Central Brooklyn have entertained hundreds of thousands of residents over the past three decades and remain the largest free concert series in the New York metropolitan area.

On Monday, May 3, 7:00PM at Carnegie Hall, The New York Pops presents a 27th Birthday concert and gala celebration entitled 'The Best Is Yet To Come: Celebrating the Legacy of Frank Sinatra'. Music Director Steven Reineke will lead The New York Pops in a concert of Sinatra's greatest hits, hosted by distinguished columnist Liz Smith. Special guest Frank Sinatra, Jr. joins the orchestra in this celebration of his father's legacy, with Broadway and television actor Cheyenne Jackson and Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris, among other notable performers such as Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Tony nominee John Tartaglia and 'Ugly Betty' star Michael Urie. Following the performance, guests are invited to The Plaza Hotel for a black tie dinner dance. The New York Pops Board Chair James A. The Marian Anderson Award has announced the guest artists for the upcoming Award Gala on April 6, 2010, at the Kimmel Center, honoring comedian and educator Bill Cosby. In announcing the program, Award Chair Pamela A. Crawley noted that 'This year is our 11th Award, and we will be honoring an individual who, like Marian Anderson, was shaped by Philadelphia and then helped shape our culture.
