The Civilians Announces Lineup, Including Kathleen Chalfant, for Upcoming Cabaret

The Civilians (Steven Cosson, Artistic Director), the award-winning New York-based theater company known for projects investigating real life topics, presents Let Me Ascertain You: Occupy #S17 on September 17 at Joe's Pub. The cabaret will focus on the one-year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street, and will feature monologues and songs crafted from interviews with activists conducted by Civilians artists throughout the past year. The one-night-only performance in The Civilians' entertaining and thought-provoking style will illuminate many of the diverse individual voices behind these large-scale protests, examine how this dynamic call to action has evolved, and explore what its future holds. Stew Magnuson Releases WOUNDED KNEE 1973: STILL BLEEDING

On the night of February 27, 1973, beat-up cars carrying dozens of angry young men sped into Wounded Knee village in Southwestern South Dakota, where 83 years earlier, Chief Big Foot and 150 Lakota Sioux were massacred by the U.S. 7th Calvary. Members of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and the local Native American Lakota had come to occupy the symbolic site on the Pine Ridge Reservation to protest their grievances. Shortly thereafter, police and Federal agents cordoned off the small town which would soon became the stage of a violent standoff. The AIM and local Lakota would hold out against the firepower of the U.S. Government for 71 days. By the time the occupiers left, the village had been destroyed, two were dead, an activist had Gone Missing, and a U.S. Marshal left paralyzed. (more...)

Vittorio Missoni's Bag Was Recovered on a Caribbean Island

WWD has reported that a Missoni spokeswoman confirmed that a bag belonging to Vittorio Missoni was found on the island of Bonaire located between Los Roques and the island of Curaçao. The small plane carrying Missoni, his wife and four other passengers, went missing on January 4th. His name appears on the label of the bag that was found. (more...)
