It's obvious that theatre nowadays has begun to stray from the cute, playful shows of the 1950s, in which plots were thin and laughs were large. And rightfully so, as after a certain point, one craves to feel moved and inspired by a piece. But something about Joe DiPietro's Living on Love, which opened April 1st at the Curtain Call Theatre, makes me wish that these old time farces will soon make a comeback.
Don't forget! Tonight's the night to change your clock for Daylight Savings Time. And since your weekend will be an hour shorter, what better way to numb the pain than with some time-centric performances from Broadway past. Below, enjoy some tunes from shows like THE LAST FIVE YEARS, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE, and many more!

While it seems that some musicals are constantly produced and have been seen by every theatergoer alive, others seem more elusive. For example, there's no good explanation for why so many people have mentioned recently that they've never seen the musical Gypsy. 'Oh, I know the songs,' they all say. Immediately followed by, 'But I've never seen the actual show.' If you are among that number, Ocean State Theatre Company has just what you need, a nearly perfect production of this classic and beloved musical. And if you are not one of those people, and you have seen the show before, you should definitely take this opportunity to see it again.
Today we are toasting this week's big news than Megan Hilty will take on the title role in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.

Nino, an Italian film maker with a strong resemblance to Federico Fellini, is in an artistic crisis. Every new work is, for him, an artistic crisis. So he goes to bed with a multitude of women, seeking ideas and stimulation, feeding on them both humanly and artistically. Nino is sexually impotent until he gets a good idea, and then he's hellfire. But his sexual partners, all artists in their own right, are not satisfied. Rallied by a wealthy feminist American widow, they decide that to be a muse is to be exploited. So they exact revenge by making a movie of Nino's life and fantasies, Candid Camera-Style. Thus unfolds 'Six Passionate Women' by Mario Fratti, a play inspired by the playwright's personal acquaintance with Fellini, whom he covered closely as a journalist in the late 1950s. It combines a serious disquisition on the creative mind with recurring themes of Fratti's plays: betrayal, jealousy and sexual politics. Theater for the New City will present the piece today, October 9 to 26, directed by Stephan Morrow. Dennis Parlato, as the film maker, heads a cast of eight that is peppered with Broadway vets.
