Aquila Theatre Returns to New York for Two Performances March 30-31

AQUILA THEATRE (Peter Meineck, Artistic Director) announced their only NY appearances this season: two performances only at NYU's Skirball Center (566 Laguardia Place). On Tuesday, March 30th, Aquila will present Henrik Ibsen's timely An Enemy of the People; on the following evening, Wednesday March 31st, they will present one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, As You Like It. Featured in both productions are Leandra Ashton, Lucy Black, Howard Crossley, Damian Davis, Lauren Davis, James Lavender, and Owen Young. (more...)

New Village Arts, Carlsbad's award-winning, professional theatre is very proud to announce its Tenth Season. This will be NVA's biggest season ever, with eight full productions, NVA's first musical and two local premieres. Over the past nine seasons, NVA has established itself as one of the most important mid-sized theatres in San Diego, producing over 40 highly acclaimed productions, including a world-premiere holiday show, multiple regional and local premieres, unforgettable American and world classics, the intense work of Sam Shepard and the popular FREE Shakespeare in the Park. New Village Arts honors that history in Season 10 and introduces some exciting new traditions for North County, by selecting shows that honor the history of the company, recognize the amazing current growth and give an intriguing glimpse into the future. NEH Awards NYU's Aquila Theatre Company 800K Grant

Peter Meineck, Artistic Director of the Aquila Theatre Company at NYU's Center for Ancient Studies, today announced that it has received an unprecedented grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, a Chairman's Special Award (the only one for a theater company), of $800,000.00, one of the two largest grants made, to launch its newest program, ANCIENT GREEKS / MODERN LIVES, whose mission is to bring the classics to 100 veteran, inner city and rural communities. This marks the first-ever theatre and community-based Chairman's Special Award. No other theater company has ever received a grant of this size from the NEH. (more...)

Rehearsals begin today, Monday, April 5 for the World Premiere production of PARADISE FOUND, a new musical under the combined direction of Theater legend and 21-time Tony Award winner Harold Prince (the original productions of Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, The Phantom of the Opera, Company, Follies, Evita) and 5-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (Crazy For You, Show Boat, The Producers, Contact). This is their first collaboration since the landmark, Tony Award-winning revival of Show Boat. Lipuma announce that A Minister's Wife, Writers' Theatre's musical adapted from George Bernard Shaw's Candida, will be produced by Lincoln Center Theater in the 2010-11 season. The original musical was conceived and directed by Michael Halberstam, adapted by Austin Pendleton with music by Joshua Schmidt and lyrics by Jan Tranen. The Lincoln Center production will be directed by Halberstam. Performances begin on Thursday, April 7, 2011 and opens on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Mitzi E.
