The Public Theater Begins Previews 8/6 for RICHARD III

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) will begin previews on Monday, August 6 for The Mobile Shakespeare Unit's RICHARD III, directed by Amanda Dehnert. Following a three-week tour, bringing free Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts, RICHARD III will run at The Public Theater through Saturday, August 25, with an official press opening on Saturday, August 11. Portland Shakespeare Project presents an ambitious second summer of producing with The Season of Lear -- two shows, playing in rotating repertory. The Season of Lear includes an inventive adaptation of William Shakespeare's King Lear written by award-winning local playwright C.S. Whitcomb, and a startling new staging of Shakespeare's classic King Lear using only six actors and keeping the original text intact. This season of passion and adventure will begin on July 11 with Lear's Follies and on July 18 with King Lear. Chautauqua Theater Company's Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch has announced the final production of CTC's 29th season: Shakespeare's glorious As You Like It. Director Jackson Gay (3C, Rattlestick; A Little Journey, 2012 Drama Desk Nomination, The Mint) makes her CTC debut with a 1930's swing era slant on Shakespeare's funniest and most frolicsome play. Composer Justin Ellington (Other Desert Cities, Lincoln Center; 2010 Grammy Award Winner) infuses the festivities with a bubbling score performed live by the sixteen member cast. (more...)

Trigger Creative, in association with The Present Company, as part of the 16th Annual New York International Fringe Festival, presents the World-premiere REDlight - documentarian Ryan Kipp's journey into the loves, lives and loses of the performers and patrons of one of Atlanta's most notorious gay strip clubs, as viewed through the eyes of a heterosexual dancer at the club - Mr. Kipp himself. REDlight is directed by Jennifer Tuttle and Marc Santa Maria, with choreography by Carol Johnson. (more...)
