A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE's Fontana Suffers On-Stage Concussion; Understudy Spector to Fill In

Just in is word that A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE's Santino Fontana (pictured), who suffered a minor concussion during a performance this past weekend has been temporarily replaced in the show by his understudy Morgan Spector. Fontana is out of the show on doctor's orders and is expected back as soon as possible. Spector, a graduate of Reed College and the American Conservatory Theatre MFA program is making his Broadway debut in the show. His previous theatre credits include Enemies: A Love Story at the Wilma Theater, Disney's The Lion King (national tour) and A Christmas Carol at ACT. His film and television credits include The Last Airbender, 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' and HBO's 'How to Make It in America.' (more...)

RIALTO CHATTER: A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE in Extension Talks?

According to a report from the New York Times, the Broadway revival of A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE may extend past it's closing date of April 4. A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE is housed at the Cort theater, which is scheduled to house the revival of August Wilson's FENCES starting April 14, which would mean BRIDGE would most likely have to transfer theatres to stay open. Executives involved in BRIDGE said moving would be costly, as would trying to arrange for FENCES to move, as most Broadway houses are booked for the spring as of now. (more...)

La Jolla Playhouse announced today five of six productions in its 2010/11 subscription season, including the world premiere of Annie Weisman's Surf Report, running June/July in the Mandell Weiss Forum; William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and featuring an on-stage orchestra playing the music of Mendelssohn, running July/Aug in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; the world-premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, starring Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, running Sept/Oct in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; a new adaptation of Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, adapted by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, directed by Robert Woodruff, running late Sept/Oct in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, running Nov/Dec in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The winning bid will receive four tickets to the play on January 24 as well as the opportunity to join the cast at their after party. After hearing of Lela's triumphant appearance at Gable Stage in 'No Child...,' Danny Weathers, artistic director for the Waterfront, scheduled the play for the '09/10 season and is thrilled to have Lela return in this amazing performance. Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who is set to appear in August Wilson's FENCES this spring, expressed some lingering regret in turning down the Brad Pitt role in the 1995 thriller SEVEN. Washington told Entertainment Weekly, 'The only film that was sort of dark that I'd turned down was SEVEN. They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, 'This is so dark & evil.'
