Florida Stage, now in residence at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, is celebrating leading ladies of the theatre with a gala fundraising event. The evening includes cocktails at sunset, followed by a showcase of South Florida's finest musical talent and culinary delights. Dubbed Divas Under Glass: A Cabaret Feast for the Senses, the event will be held at West Palm Beach's new Lake Pavilion, the beautiful glass structure on Flagler Drive's Waterfront Promenade on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, starting at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $300 per person and include cocktails, a dinner 'by the bite' and a dessert buffet. Proceeds will benefit Florida Stage. Dress is 'glamorous casual.' New York City Ballet's 2011 winter repertory performances will begin on Tuesday, January 18, kicking off with an all-Balanchine program consisting of Walpurgisnacht Ballet, Duo Concertant, Valse-Fantaisie and The Four Temperaments, and will continue for six weeks, through Sunday, February 27, with performances of more than 27 different ballets from NYCB's unparalleled repertory. Since Theatre Development Fund (TDF), the not-for-profit service organization which runs the TKTS Discount Booths, released the The Official TKTS iPhone app last December, it has become one of the most downloaded New York theatre apps in the iTunes App Store. It is still available free of charge through March 1 (after March 1 downloads will cost $0.99). Today, theatre lovers with Android devices will be able to get the same TKTS information with the launch of the TKTS Android app which lets TKTS customers know, in real-time, what shows are available at all three TKTS Discount Booths - Times Square, South Street Seaport and Downtown Brooklyn. The third New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert (YPC) of the 2010-11 season will take place Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Daniel Boico. The concert will focus on the Romantic era as part of the season's theme, "The Ages of Music," which explores the four major periods of orchestral music. Philharmonic Director of Education Theodore Wiprud is the host of the series, designed for youngsters 6 to 12 years of age, with programs written and directed by Tom Dulack. This concert will feature violinist Erno Kallai - one of four young violinists who are appearing as soloists on the YPCs this season - and actors Adam Alexander and Alesia Lawson. (more...)
