The Guthrie today announced a slate of events taking place June 22-23, 2013, commemorating the theater's 50th season with options ranging from dinner and dance parties; BEHOLD, an original one-time gala performance; and a Community Celebration Day in which the Guthrie will open its doors for free all-ages activities, classes and behind-the-scenes access to the theater's inner workings. The Guthrie also announced the appointment of Jay Cowles, Margaret Wurtele and Charlie Zelle, the children of founders John Cowles Jr., Philip Von Blon and Louis Zelle as Honorary Chairs of its 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, today announced complete casting for the company's upcoming new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (director of the acclaimed Broadway revivals of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Company). Joining previously announced Melissa Errico (Clara), Judy Kuhn (Fosca) and Ryan Silverman (Giorgio) in the production are Stephen Bogardus (Colonel Ricci), Jeffry Denman (Lieutenant Barri), Jason Michael Evans (Private Augenti), Amy Justman (understudy), Ken Krugman (Lieutenant Torasso), Orville Mendoza (Sergeant Lombardi), Tom Nelis (Doctor Tambourri) and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic). PASSION is slated to begin performances on February 8, 2013 at CSC (136 East 13th Street), with an official press opening scheduled for Thursday, February 28, playing a limited engagement through Sunday, April 7. Don Grigware Announces His Best in LA Theatre for 2012

The choices I have made are based solely on the plays and performances that I actually saw. I cannot see all the great talent that is out there in LA; it is physically impossible, as there exist far too many theatre/cabaret performances for one person to cover. So if a choice of yours is not on my list, chances are, I did not see that play or performance...or, it just did not make the final cut. I also do not separate Equity from Equity waiver; I consider all the productions/performances I select to be of top-of-the-line quality/professionalism. (more...)
