Rep Stage, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), opens its 19th season with Liz Duffy Adams' farcical comedy 'Or,'. The free love of the '60s - the 1660s - is riotously explored in this recent Off-Broadway sleeper hit based on real-life playwright Aphra Behn's life as an undercover spy and her romantic romps through Restoration England in order to gain entry into the boys' playwriting club. Michael Stebbins, Rep Stage's producing artistic director, who directed last season's critically acclaimed 'Two by J.M.Barrie: The New Word and The Old Lady Shows Her Medals,' returns to direct this regional premiere. But on Sunday, August 28, Hurricane Irene is predicted to hit the East Coast. Now declared a category 2 hurricane further south in Virginia and the Carolinas, the storm is expected to weaken to a category 1 by the time it hits the New York City area, with winds up to 90 mph. New York City is among the areas expected to experience the worst conditions this weekend. Mayor Bloomberg has already ordered the evacuation of several hospital and nursing home facilities in the lower lying areas of the city downtown, however he has not yet called for a larger-scale evacuation. TRACES & MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Cancel Weekend Performances

As previously reported, Hurricane Irene is heading to the East Coast this weekend, predicted to hit New York City hard beginning Saturday night, August 27, going into Sunday, August 28. Now declared a Category 2 hurricane further south in Virginia and the Carolinas, the storm is expected to weaken to a Category 1 by the time it hits the New York City area, with winds up to 90 mph. New York City is among the areas expected to experience the worst conditions on the norther east coast this weekend. Mayor Bloomberg has already ordered the evacuation of several hospital and nursing home facilities in the lower lying areas of the city downtown, and the evacuation of additional areas of Brooklyn and Staten Island are likely. All public transportation will be shut down in and our of New York tomorrow at 12:00pm, including the NYC Subway lines and buses. (more...)
