Cutting Ball Theater Announces Mellon Grant

San Francisco's cutting-edge Cutting Ball Theater announces that the company has been awarded a grant for $166,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to fund a three-year residency for resident playwright Andrew Saito. The grant will give Saito a full time salary and health benefits at Cutting Ball for the entire three years, with options to receive additional developmental funds. The grant is Cutting Ball's largest grant to date. (more...)

American Conservatory Theater Announces Two 'Bike to the Theater' Nights

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC), is providing a greener alternative to theater transportation. For two performances of the West Coast premiere of 4000 Miles-Thursday, January 17, and Thursday, January 24-A.C.T. will host Bike to the Theater Night, during which the SFBC will offer free valet bike parking for all patrons who cycle to the theater. Patrons who bike to the theater will receive a special discount on tickets that evening ($35 Orchestra, $25 Mezzanine, or $10 Balcony using code BIKE10 (online or by phone). Valet bike parking is available one hour prior to showtime. Bicycles will be attended throughout the evening. Patrons are asked to bring their own locks. Today, we're featuring Bud Cort circa 1981. Film and stage actor, writer and director, Cort appeared on Broadway as 'Jerry' in 1972's Wise Child. Cort is known for playing 'Harold' in the 1971 film Harold and Maude, as well as the lead in the film Brewster McCloud. Cort's other credits include Endgame, The Chocolate War, Dogma, Pollock, The Twilight Zone, The Secret Diary of Sigmund Freud, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, an appearance on Arrested Development and more. David Darlow to Star in Chicago Shakespeare Theater's JULIUS CAESAR; Full Cast Announced!

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced today casting for its contemporary retelling of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, staged by acclaimed British director Jonathan Munby in his Chicago debut, February 5-March 24, 2013 in CST's Courtyard Theater. The production features a celebrated company of artists that includes Jeff Award-winning Chicago actor David Darlow in the title role, Canada's Stratford Festival favorite Dion Johnstone as Marc Antony, New York stage and screen actor Jason Kolotouros as Caius Cassius and British actor John Light as Marcus Brutus. The production also welcomes the return of veteran CST actors David Lively as Ligarius/Lepidus, Barbara E. Robertson as Calphurnia and Larry Yando as Casca. (more...)

GHOST THE MUSICAL Announces UK Tour, Beginning April 2013 in Cardiff

The smash hit West End musical GHOST the Musical, based on the Academy Award winning film, is to tour throughout the UK opening at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff in April 2013. GHOST the Musical is directed by the Tony award winning Matthew Warchus (Matilda, Art) and has music and lyrics by Grammy® award winning Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard and features the iconic song Unchained Melody. Set and costume designs are by Rob Howell, musical supervision and arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, illusions are by Paul Kieve, choreography is by Ashley Wallen, video and projection designs by Jon Driscoll, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Bobby Aitken. The UK tour is being produced by David Ian Productions, The Ambassador Theatre Group, Colin Ingram, and Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle. THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK Opens at Milwaukee Rep, October 26

Anne Frank's remarkable diary has become an essential tool for understanding one of the darkest periods of our history - and one of the most beautiful, haunting stories in our shared experience. The play is dramatized from the book by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Making her Rep directorial debut, KJ Sanchez will direct the play. The cast features Associate Artists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon, Lee E. Ernst, James Pickering and Deborah Staples and guest actors J. Alexander Coe, Kelley Faulkner, Larry Neumann, Jr., and rising Chicago actress Lauren Hirte in the title role. Rep Artistic Intern Ensemble Members Jonathan Altman, Emily Berman, Jess Prichard and J.R. Yancher are also in this production. The Diary of Anne Frank runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from October 23 - December 2 and opens on Friday, October 26. (more...)
