As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Zoe Caldwell, four-time Tony Award-winning Broadway actress, died peacefully at the age of 86 at her home in Pound Ridge, New York, on Sunday, February 16, 2020. The cause of death was complications due to Parkinson's disease, according to her son, Charlie Whitehead. Today, we remember Caldwell with a look back at photos from our archives.

During this year's Season Release Bash at Park & Field, Artistic Director and Co-Founder Michael Patrick Thornton and Associate Artistic Director Emjoy Gavino announced The Gift Theatre's 2020 Season will include: a revival of Martin McDonagh's masterpiece THE PILLOWMAN; the Chicago premiere of Naomi Iizuka's drama AT THE VANISHING POINT, directed by Lavina Jadhwani; and the world premiere of Jennifer Rumberger's drama THE LOCUSTS, commissioned and developed by The Gift.

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??The Association for Theatre in Higher Education named Randy Reinholz (Choctaw), the recipient of their most prestigious honor, named for Ellen Stewart, well-known Artistic Director of the acclaimed La MaMa Theater in New York. Reinholz, a celebrated leader in the field of theater and higher education, has been at the forefront of equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice for 25 years as the Founder and Producing Artistic Director of Native Voices at the Autry, the only Equity theater company wholly dedicated to developing and producing Native American plays.

The Colorado Music Festival today announced the appointment of conductor Peter Oundjian as its next Music Director. He is the fourth person to hold this title in the 42-year history of the festival, which is held for six weeks each year at the Colorado Chautauqua, a National Historic Landmark at the foot of the rugged Flatirons. Mr. Oundjian led the 2018 festival as Artistic Advisor, and his appointment as Music Director was announced along with the festival's 2019 season, which runs from June 27 to August 3 and explores the legacy of Beethoven.

The Actors' Gang Theater presents an exhibition featuring the artworks of Ralph Steadman and Dario Fo, to accompany the run of ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST, which will open this Saturday, February 2nd and will continue until March 9th. Written by Italian playwright and Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo, translated by Jon Laskin and Michael Aquilante and directed by Will Thomas McFadden, the play began its run on Thursday, January 24th.

Ring in the New Year on January 4 and 5 with guest conductor Xian Zhang, whose "incisive gestures elicit vivid performances" ("The New York Times"), as she leads the orchestra in six dazzling pieces, including well-known melodies from "The Sleeping Beauty," Joan Tower's "Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman," and lively Viennese waltzes. The celebratory music is a clever juxtaposition to Szymanowski's lush and mysterious Violin Concerto No. 1, performed by concertmaster Madeline Adkins.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra announced the November 9 release of its latest album, American Originals: 1918, under the direction of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell. The recording is inspired by America's cultural awakening at the end of the First World War one hundred years ago and the distinctly American musical styles that reflect the country's diversity. This album celebrates and reimagines popular songs of this era that remain fresh and relevant today with acclaimed musical collaborators including Rhiannon Giddens, Steep Canyon Rangers and Pokey LaFarge. The 95th Cincinnati Pops album was recorded live at Cincinnati Music Hall November 10- 12, 2017, and is being released on the Orchestra's label, Fanfare Cincinnati.

Seven-time Grammy winner Toni Braxton will be taking her “As Long As I Live” tour on the road in support of her current “Sex & Cigarettes” album.  The tour begins on January 19 in Columbia, SC and will make a stop at Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 8 p.m. Special guests for this concert will be SWV, known for their string of top R&B hits selling more than 15 million albums and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds' award–winning, multi-faceted performer, writer and producer credited for of such megastars as TLC, OutKast, Usher, and Toni Braxton. The GRAMMY Museum Experience Prudential Center, in association with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), will launch a new program series this fall, beginning with “An Evening With Lenny Kravitz,” a four-time GRAMMY® winner, on Sept. 18, 2018, in NJPAC's Victoria Theater in Newark, N.J. The program will feature a conversation between the iconic rock musician and special guest moderator, five-time GRAMMY winner Questlove about the creation and inspiration behind Kravitz's new release, Raise Vibration. The series will continue with “An Evening With Wyclef Jean,” a three-time GRAMMY winner and founding member of the New Jersey-based Fugees Oct.16, 2018.  The acclaimed musician, producer, and songwriter will discuss his illustrious career and current projects with the Los Angeles GRAMMY Museum's Founding Executive Director, Bob Santelli, which will be followed by a special performance.

CYPRUS AVENUE will run through Sunday, July 29 in The Public's LuEsther Hall, with an official press opening on Monday, June 25.

Casting has been announced for the World Premiere of Great Apes from the novel by Will Self; reimagined for the stage by Patrick Marmion. It is a raucous, surreal modern satire that mixes Self's famously rich language with subtle simian movement and vocalisations to create a theatrical 'Planet of the Apes' crossed with 'Gulliver's Travels'.
