Cohl: "Producing SPIDER-MAN is Scary"

He is the man who brought SPIDER-MAN back from the brink. In a feature out yesterday, the New York Times profiles Michael Cohl, the man about which we have heard little, but who is responsible for resurrecting the most expensive and, for some, most highly anticipated Broadway show in history. Cohl stepped into the role of lead producer on the mega-musical in the fall of 2009 after a significant investment in the show fell out, leaving the production stifled and dry. A former music tour promoter for U2 and the Rolling Stones, Cohl was recruited by SPIDER-MAN composers Bono and The Edge to reinvigorate the production. And reinvigorate it he has, with previews officially scheduled to begin in just months on November 14, 2010. (more...)

Carney will perform the song, composed by Bono and The Edge at the Hudson Theatre in the Millennium Hotel. The performance will be broadcast live during the 8am-9am hour. As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark will make its television debut this Friday, September 10, on ABC's 'Good Morning America.' The appearance will feature interviews with the show's composers and lyricists, Bono and The Edge, live via satellite from their European tour, and Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor, as well as the premiere of a song from the highly anticipated show, performed by its star, Reeve Carney (who portrays Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and his band Carney, live from The Hudson Theatre in Times Square. Broadway's Hilton Theatre to Be Renamed as Foxwoods Theatre

Foxwoods Resort Casino, the East Coast's premier resort casino destination, and Live Nation, the world's largest live music company, today announced a multi-year agreement that grants Foxwoods the exclusive naming rights to the former Hilton Theatre on Broadway's historic 42nd Street in New York's Times Square (originally the Ford Center for the Performing Arts). Beginning today, the venue will be called the Foxwoods Theatre. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. (more...)

SPIDER-MAN Gets New PR Representative in Rick Miramontez

SPIDER-MAN has made headlines again. The New York Times reports that press agent Adrian Bryan-Brown of Boneau/Bryan-Brown has cut ties with Broadway's upcoming SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK. Bryan-Brown's Thursday statement noted that he 'made the personal decision to resign this week,' and looked forward to seeing the production on Broadway. He has been working on the show for the past three years. The lead producer of the show, Michael Cohl, has accepted the resignation and appointed Rick Miramontez, president of firm O&M, to head future press for SPIDER-MAN. (more...)
