BootStrap Theater Foundation is pleased to announce the world premiere of 'Arctic Requiem: The Story of Luke Cole and Kivalina' created by Sharmon J. PITTSBURGH – Performing in Pittsburgh for the first time since 1977, Randy Newman, whose music speaks to multiple generations, closes the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Summer with the Symphony: Today Night Icons series tonight, July 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Heinz Hall.

Earlier this month, Jose Llana stepped into the role of the King of Siam in Lincoln Center Theater's Tony Award-winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I, directed by Bartlett Sher, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). This marks Llana's second experience in the iconic show, as he made is Broadway debut almost 20 years ago as Lun Tha in the 1996 revival. Llana joins Tony winner Kelli O'Hara for a strictly limited 11-week engagement through Sunday, September 27. Just after he took his first bow on the Vivian Beaumont stage, he checked in with BroadwayWorld to update us on taking on his new role, reuniting with some of his Here Lies Love friends, and so much more. The New Group has announced three productions for its 2015-2016 Season.  The company's new season kicks off in Summer 2015 with the Off-Broadway premiere of Philip Ridley's Mercury Fur, directed by Scott Elliott.  The season continues in Fall 2015 with the world premiere of Mark Gerrard's Steve, with director Cynthia Nixon returning to The New Group, where she made her directorial debut earlier this year.  In Winter 2016, Scott Elliott directs Sam Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Buried Child, featuring Ed Harris and Amy Madigan, who return to The New Group with this production.

the cell in association with The Furies will present a newly adapted version of Henrik Ibsen's GHOSTS entitled GHOSTS AFTER IBSEN written by Thomas Kilroy and directed by Austin Pendleton. Previews begin Monday, March 2, 2015 and the production will run until Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the cell, 338W 23rd St. The official opening will be on Friday, March 6th at 7:00 PM.

Washington National Opera (WNO) continues its 2014-2015 season with the world premiere of the one-hour opera Penny by composer Douglas Pew and librettist Dara Weinberg, presented under the auspices of WNO's American Opera Initiative, January 23-24, 2015 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Pew and Weinberg are alumni of the American Opera Initiative; their 20-minute work A Game of Hearts had its world premiere during the program's first season in November 2012. Penny is conducted by American Opera Initiative mentor Anne Manson and directed by Alan Paul, the Associate Director of Washington's Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

One of Broadway's most beloved musicals, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, opened last night at the Saenger Theater. The musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber originally opened on the Great White Way in the late 1980s, and starred the likes of Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. The story begins when the Paris Opera House is taken over by a new management team. The disfigured man who lives beneath the theatre, the phantom, lets them know who is really in charge by terrorizing them until his love, Christine, is put into the spotlight.

La Jolla Playhouse presents the U.S. premiere production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, featuring a score by the multiple Academy, Grammy and Tony Award-winning team of composer Alan Menken (Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), book by Peter Parnell (The West Wing, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) and direction by Scott Schwartz (Playhouse's Jane Eyre, Broadway's Golda's Balcony). Produced in association with Paper Mill Playhouse, by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions, The Hunchback of Notre Dame runs through December 14, 2014 in the Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theatre. Artistic Director Jim Simpson and Producing Director Carol Ostrow are looking for a dynamic leader for the completion of The Flea Theater's long tenancy at 41 White Street, and to lead The Flea once it moves to its own new three-theater performing arts complex at 20 Thomas Street in 2016.

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced complete casting for its first full presentation of Richard Wagner's four-part Ring cycle. Three cycles will be presented from April 30 to May 22, 2016 and will be directed by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello and conducted by WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin.
