Variety reports that Academy Award nominated English composer Richard Rodney Bennett died on Monday, December 24th at the age of 76. According to the report, Bennett passed away in his home in New York City.

Today, we're featuring Peter Firth circa 1981. Following the National Theatre's production of Peter Shaffer's Equus at the Old Vic in 1973, Firth appeared on Broadway as Alan Strang in 1974. The performance earned him a Tony nomination. Firth also starred in the 1977 film adaptation of Equus, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. He then went on to play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the original Broadway production of another Shaffer play, Amadeus, in 1980, all before this photo was taken. A successful film and television actor, Firth is now best known for his role as Sir Harry Pearce in the BBC One show 'Spooks'; he is the only actor to have starred in every episode of the show's 10 seasons.

Celebrated actress and two-time Tony Award-winner Frances Sternhagen will be joining the confluence of artists and audiences for Florida Stage's 5th Annual 1st Stage New Works Festival. Ms. Sternhagen will be featured in a staged reading of legendary playwright Israel Horovitz' new play Beverley on Saturday, February 5, 2011. On Friday, February 4, in place of the Festival's usual Keynote speech, Ms. Sternhagen will take part in what is being called 'A Conversation with Frances Sternhagen.' Florida Stage Producing Director Louis Tyrrell will conduct a public interview with Sternhagen on stage in the Persson Hall at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The Florida Stage 1st Stage New Works Festival takes place February 3-6, 2011. He made a pact with God that he would be the vessel through which God's music would spring. All was good until Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arrives in Vienna. In horror Salieri determines that it is Mozart instead who is his God's chosen voice.
