Florida Studio Theatre will celebrate the grand opening of the Gompertz Theatre tonight, November 29, 2012 with The Next Act Gala. The theme of the event is "Reflecting on Theatre Past and Future" and will celebrate FST's 39 years of contemporary work. Carol M. Poteat-Buchanan and Patricia Courtois, two of FST's longtime supporters, will serve as the co-chairs of the event.

On Monday, April 16, Florida Studio Theatre's staff and supporters gathered to unveil the cornerstone on the Hegner Theatre Wing - part of the New Gompertz Theatre capital improvement campaign that includes renovating the 6,000 sq. foot Gompertz Theatre and constructing an 18,000 sq. foot addition with two new theatre spaces.
'I'm feeling pretty high right now- it's wonderful! I'm so happy for the production and all of the people in the cast even though they weren't recognized. I feel like the play is getting some important recognition because of this. My publicist Mandy called me on the phone to give me the news this morning. I chose not watch the TV. I've done that before and it makes me a nervous wreck- it seems that 'L' comes too late in the alphabet for that. I have to do the show tonight and then I'm taking the cast out for drinks- and trust me, they're big drinkers!'

Variety reports today that stage and screen star John Lithgow has joined the cast of 'Dog Fight,' with the previously announced Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis.
At a press conference Florida Studio Theatre announced a multi-year capital improvement campaign to renovate the 6,000 sq. foot Gompertz Theatre and construct an 18,000 sq. foot addition with two new theatre spaces. The $5.6 million dollar campaign is the largest capital program in the 37-year old theatre's history and will double the number of renovated stages on the theatre's campus located in Sarasota's historic downtown.
