 Enrollment is now open for young people ages 8 -18 for Sarasota Youth Opera's 2015 Summer Camp to be held June 8 – June 26, 2015.  The annual three-week program will run Monday thru Friday from 9 am – 12:30pm for campers ages 8 – 10, and 10am – 4pmfor campers ages 11 – 18. Everyone is welcome; no audition is required. All activities are at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota.

Sarasota Opera is proud to announce its plans for the 2015-2016 fall and winter season, the most climactic in the company's 56 year history. The season will feature the final two installments of the 28 year Verdi Cycle - The Battle of Legnano and Aida- in a grand spectacle of music, vocal prowess, awe-inspiring choruses, sumptuous scenery, and luxurious costumes. Happy Birthday Arthur Laurents! Laurents' first play, Home of the Brave, opened on Broadway in 1945, followed by many others. He wrote his first musical, West Side Story, in 1957, followed by Gypsy and others. His first screenplay was The Snake Pit in 1948, followed by others including Rope, Anastasia, The Way We Were and The Turning Point. His own play, Invitation to a March in 1960, was the first of several he directed. I Can Get It for You Wholesale in 1961 was the first musical he directed, followed by others including La Cage aux Folles and Gypsy with Angela Lansbury, then Tyne Daly and most recently, Patti LuPone. He pased away in May 2011.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that Sarasota Opera is one of 886 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Sarasota Opera is recommended for a $25,000 grantto support Sarasota Youth Opera programs.
