Theatre for a New Audience Presents LOVE IS MY SIN

For its third show of its 30th anniversary season, Theatre for a New Audience will present the New York premiere of C.I.C.T. / Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord production of Love Is My Sin, the sonnets of William Shakespeare adapted by Peter Brook and performed by his wife, Natasha Parry and Michael Pennington.

Full Cast Announced for BACKBEAT Premiere at Citizens Theatre, Opens 2/9

Full casting has been announced for the upcoming production of BACKBEAT at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow. The production will be the onstage premiere of the musical adapation, based on the hit film about the Beatles. The cast will include Isabella Calthorpe and Andy Knott. Also Jamie Blackley, Oliver Bennett, Daniel Healy, Kate Hodgson, Patrick Lannigan, Alex Robertson and Charles Swift. The production will run from February 9th through March 6th.

"In the States we think of him as a romantic comedy guy, but working with him on the film we got to see that he's got tremendous range as an actor" says producer Ann Carli. "He's amazing. OKLAHOMA! is the first of the Rodgers & Hammerstein masterworks and is credited with establishing the musical play as a significant art form, paving the way for all others that came after it, including the works of Lerner & Loewe, Frank Loesser and Leonard Bernstein. After OKLAHOMA!, composer Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein, II (1895-1960) produced such vital works as CAROUSEL, THE KING AND I, SOUTH PACIFIC and THE SOUND OF MUSIC, making them the most important contributors to the musical-play form during the 1940s-1950s, the era that is considered the golden age of the medium.

The cuadrilla of an over-the-hill matador (Vincent D'Elia) comes to Martinique in search of a paying bull-fight. They stop (running out of gas) in front of an establishment run by the matador's old flame (Rita Rehn). Years ago, she was a teacher and because her 'girls' are carrying books on Latin, French, and math he assumes she still is. His son (Nicolas Davila) is sent to get gas the hard way - by earning it with a lady station owner. A car accident has the son in bed with the island's newest resident (Jennifer Evans). Pop thinks she's rich and wants damages, the son thinks she owns a gas station and wants gas, she is concussed.

The Phoenix Theatre for Children will present a stage adaptation of one of James Thurber's most charming children's stories, Many Moons, in tribute to author, humorist, New Yorker cartoonist, and Columbus native James Thurber and in celebration of the 25th birthday of central Ohio's literary jewel, the Thurber House. This all-local production boasts colorful costumes, live musical accompaniment, and spirited characters portrayed by four central Ohio actors including 13-year-old Westgate resident Emma Welsh-Huggins who will play the central role. The cast is rounded out by GermanVillage resident Ted Amore, Gahanna resident Ian Short, and Marysville resident Joe Bishara.

The first program, 'I'm on My Way': Black History at City Opera on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, commemorates the rich African-American contributions to City Opera's heritage and the great African-American works and artists who have graced City Opera's stage. Continuing with 'One Fine Day': A Tribute to Camilla Williams on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 and 'Troubled Island': 60th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the programs feature discussion, live performance, special guests, historic slides and audio and video clips. All three events take place at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, located at 15 Malcolm X Boulevard in New York City.
