Perseverance Theatre (PT) presents Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Benjamin Barker returns to London bent on revenge after serving time for a crime he did not commit.  Armed with a sharp, straight razor, he sets up shop as one of the finest barbers in the city, and calls himself Sweeney Todd.  When he meets Mrs. Lovett, a local pie maker who will do anything for him, Todd's plan for vengeance becomes a savory pie filling, and the blood starts flowing.  With a brilliant score and unforgettable characters, this Tony Award-winning musical is one tasty piece of theatre.

Carnegie Hall today announced that its Opening Night Gala concert on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m.- launching the Hall's historic 125th anniversary season-will be webcast free of charge to a worldwide audience, thanks to its continued partnership with medici.tv. The Opening Night program, featuring the New York Philharmonic conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, will include the world premiere of Vivo by Magnus Lindberg, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall; Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe Suite No. 2; and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with guest soloist Evgeny Kissin. Following the live webcast, free replay of this concert will be available to online audiences on medici.tv for another 90 days, playable worldwide on all internet-enabled devices, including smart phones, tablets, Chromecast, computers, and smart TVs.

 Griffin Theatre Company has announced its 28th Season, kicking off this fall with the Midwest premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's heartbreaking comedy POCATELLO, directed by ensemble member Jonathan Berry (Punk Rock, Balm in Gilead). Next winter, Griffin presents the Midwest premiere of British playwright John Van Druten's romantic drama LONDON WALL, directed by recent Jeff Award-winner and ensemble member Robin Witt (Men Should Weep, Flare Path). The season concludes next summer with the Chicago debut of the off-Broadway hit BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL with book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe, direction by Scott Weinstein, who helmed Griffin's hit musical Titanic, and music direction by Ethan Deppe.

Physical Festival Chicago Sets Celebration of Physical Theater Program

Physical Festival Chicago announced today the full program for its second annual celebration of this energetic, imaginative and boundary-breaking form of theater. The following companies and artists will participate in this week-long event to be held July 7-12: Single Shoe Productions (UK, Portugal & USA), Walkabout Theater Company (Chicago), DeCollage (Spain) and David Gaines (Washington DC). The Festival will also feature a Scratch Night, a preview of what's next in the physical theater scene, and four professional Master Classes with the visiting artists at Columbia College Chicago, 916 S. Wabash Ave. The performances will take place at Links Hall, 3111 N. Western Ave., Chicago. New York Phil to Present CONTACT! as Part of 'Focus on Japan'

The sixth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, concludes with "Focus on Japan," Friday, June 5, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Jeffrey Milarsky in his Philharmonic debut. The program co-presented with Met Museum Presents, the live arts series at the Metropolitan Museum, will feature modern and contemporary works by Japanese composers and a work influenced by Japan: Takemitsu's Archipelago S for 21 players; Messiaen's Japan-inspired Sept Haikai, with Stephen Gosling as piano soloist; the U.S. Premiere of Misato Mochizuki's Si bleu, si calme; and the World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commission of Dai Fujikura's Infinite String.

New York Philharmonic to Present 11th Season of SUMMERTIME CLASSICS, Begins Today

The New York Philharmonic will present its 11th season of Summertime Classics, July 2-6, 2014, featuring five themed concerts with Bramwell Tovey, who has been the host and conductor of the series since its founding in 2004. On the first program, July 2-3, 2014, titled 'Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Friends,' the New York Philharmonic will perform Shostakovich's Festive Overture; Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 1, with pianist Joyce Yang as soloist; Musorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain; Rachmaninoff's arrangement of his own Vocalise; and Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker, and Marche slave. The second program, July 4-6, 2014, titled 'Star-Spangled Celebration,' will feature the New York Philharmonic and United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps - 'The Commandant's Own,' which is celebrating its 80th-anniversary year - in a program that includes Copland's Clarinet Concerto, with Associate Principal Clarinet Mark Nuccio as soloist, and Fanfare for the Common Man; Gershwin's 'Strike Up the Band' from Strike Up the Band; Sousa marches; and more. In these performances Major Brian Dix, director and commanding officer of 'The Commandant's Own,' will share conducting duties with Bramwell Tovey.
