Entertain. Illuminate. Educate. As Park City Performing Arts Foundation has transitioned into Park City Institute, its mission has broadened. This season at The Eccles Center illustrates PCI's efforts to not just entertain, but also to educate and to illuminate. PCI sets the tone for a 'thinky' Eccles Center season with Edward Snowden opening the line-up on December 5 (via closed video feed). As always, the season includes an eclectic mix of live dance, music, authors, speakers, family shows, spectacles, up-and-comers and well-established legends.
Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, continues its 86th anniversary season with a weekend of exceptional classical music. The weekend begins tonight, August 8 (6:30pm) with an evening dedicated to Italian & German 17th & 18th Century Music for Soprano, Baroque Trumpet and Harpsichord featuring Christine Gevert, harpsichord. Following on Sunday, August 9 (3pm) is the St. Petersburg String Quartet with guest artist Pamela Mia Paul, piano performing Sulkhan Tsintsadze; Arensky; and Shostakovich. Concerts featuring local jazz and country groups, plus world-renowned chamber ensembles, continue thru September 27th.

With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.
