The much-loved comedy movie 9 to 5 has been transformed into a new musical to have its world premiere at Center Theatre Group. Seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Dolly Parton has written the music and lyrics for the new musical. The book for 9 to 5 is by Patricia Resnick, who is the movie's co-author. Choreography is by Andy Blankenbuehler. Two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello directs.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced the winners and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles and Orange County theatre for the year 2008. The 40th Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony took place Monday, March 16 at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, and was co-hosted by Vicki Lewis and Wenzel Jones.
The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles and Orange County theatre for the year 2008. The 40th Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 16 at the El Portal Theatre, thanks to the generous donation of the El Portal's management. The first preview for '9 to 5: The Musical' has been delayed for the second time and will now take place on Tuesday, Sept 9, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. Audiences for the previously-announced previews on September 3, 4 and 5 will be moved to other performances. This change is being made to meet the technical demands of this world premiere musical. Two performances have been added: a matinee preview on Sept 14th and a 6:30 p.m. performance on the closing date of Oct.19.
The first preview for '9 to 5: The Musical' will now take place on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. Audiences for the previously-announced previews on September 3, 4 and 5 will be moved to other performances.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Ahmanson Theatre spokeswoman Nancy Hereford confirmed Tuesday that Marc Kudisch, one of the stars of the musical did, indeed, fall while making a jump from a set piece on Sunday. 'Paramedics were called and the actor was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and kept overnight for observation. He sustained no serious injury and is back at rehearsals', Hereford explain to reporters.
