Berkeley Repertory Theatre Opens Three New Studios

Playwright and Filmmaker Nora Ephron Dies at 71

Ephron is well known for her films When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Go Mail and more recently, Julie & Julia. SculptureCenter Seeks IN PRACTICE Proposals; Deadline Today, 6/24

The In Practice program supports artists in creating new work for exhibition at SculptureCenter. We invite artists to submit proposals for projects and installations to be presented beginning in January of 2013. Artists selected for the In Practice program will receive a $500 honoraria and up to $1500 in production support. The level of production support will depend on the scope of accepted works and available funding. There are no geographic eligibility requirements, but the budget does not provide for travel, housing, or accommodation costs. The deadline for submissions is today, June 24. (more...)

Tony-award winning Intiman Theatre turns 40 this year and will celebrate by launching a new summer theatre festival with four plays: Romeo and Juliet, Hedda Gabler, Miracle! and Dirty Story. The artists leading the charge - Dan Savage, Valerie Curtis-Newton, Andrew Russell and Allison Narver - are bringing passion projects with a twist to awaken the theatre, and the company of 17 local actors features established heavyweights and new forces, twisting and turning to play more than 40 roles in more than 80 performances. Similarly, the design team is stretching and shifting to build a versatile playground on the mainstage that will support several shows while simultaneously creating a separate universe in Intiman's studio space. After the success of last season's inaugural Festival, Red Bull Theater's Short New Plays Festival returns in 2012. Six short plays will be selected from an open-submission process and presented in staged readings with two short plays by commissioned writers (John Guare and one other TBA).
