Jean Paul Sartre's 1944 NO EXIT receives a sturdy mounting by the InterAct Theatre Company. Kent Minault directs his gifted cast spouting out Sartre's lines ever so trippingly and sensibly on their respective tongues. Any faster readings would have been unintelligible. Bravo to the cast for their commitment, intensity and believability in this possibly realistic situation. Who really knows what it's like to be in Hell?
Today, I am kicking off the series with “Five Things About the JERSEY BOYS Movie,” a film that I failed to see in the theater because all of the horrendous reviews Clint Eastwood's direction received. Released in June 2014, the movie tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Based on the Tony and Grammy winning musical of the same name, the film adaptation went through a number of iterations during development. Initially Tony-winning playwright, and TV and movie scribe John Logan was to pen the screenplay and Jon Favreau (of ELF, IRON MAN, and SWINGERS fame) was slated to direct.

A lot went down on tonight's episode of OUTLANDER. And I mean a lot. So much, in fact, that it felt like the type of episode that would pave the way for one heck of a season finale. The show started off with a bang as Steven Maglio was "requested" by Dominic Chianese to introduce the evening. Dominic Chianese, the multi talented actor who is best known for his role as "Junior" in The Sopranos, can also sing (not as in FBI). There were a lot of "family" present for this yearly event at the Friars Club. Good food and good entertainment by fellow Friars were the specials of the day as General Manager Michael Caputo and Food & Beverage Director Giuseppe Tarillo expertly guided the evening. Even Chazz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale) luckily gave a thumbs up!
Signature Theatre has announced that Quiara Alegria Hudes & Lisa Kron have joined the Residency Five program, which provides five-year residencies for multiple playwrights, guaranteeing three full productions of new work over the course of each playwright's residency. I am taken back to the first Opera I saw as a kid and the pomp and circumstance with wearing a tux and walking to the lavish theatre; this was when I fell in love with classical music. Often times we hear opera and other classical art forms are inaccessible to the people, but Houston Grand Opera's English translation of Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE (Die Zauberflote) proved that opera isn't a stuffy, highbrow art form for the bourgeois. THE MAGIC FLUTE premiered on September 30, 1791 at Emanuel Schikaneder's theatre, the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, and Mozart conducted the orchestra. The MAGIC FLUTE often referenced as a singspiel, is an opus with spoken dialogue which lends itself to the elements of classical musical theatre. The heart of this new work was an excerpt from the oriental genie tales collected by poet Christoph Martin Wieland but transitioned to have Masonic elements from the novel Sethos by Abbe Jean Terrasson.

To say the winter finale was full of cliffhangers, curveballs, and straight up anxiety (that last one was on my part, not NASHVILLE's) would be an understatement. The December 10th episode managed to catch up on the storylines of almost every major character, and still leave us patiently awaiting tonight's spring premiere.
