Milwaukee Rep Presents ASSASSINS, Now thru 10/7

Assassins will be directed at The Milwaukee Rep by Artistic Director Mark Clements. This will be the third musical he has directed since he began his tenure at The Rep following last season's hit Next to Normal and Cabaret from his first season. With the selection of Assassins for the 2012/13 Season, Milwaukee Repertory Theater shows its commitment to continuing to produce full-scale musicals as part of its repertoire. Clements has assembled a top-notch cast for this production featuring many performers with extensive Broadway credits. NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players Announce 2012-2013 Productions

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America's preeminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory company, launches its G&S Fest 2013, presenting three iconic classic productions: The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore, and THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD when the company stages its gala return to City Center (West 55th Street) January 4th - January 20th. Other highlights of the season include a production of the rarely seen THE SORCERER on December 1st & 2nd at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (899 10th Avenue at 59th Street), plus the annual New Year's Eve champagne gala at Peter Norton Symphony Space (2535 Broadway at 95th Street). Set in the fictional Japanese village of Titipu, Gilbert & Sullivan's comic opera satirizes aspects of British society, culture and manners circa 1860 that have remarkable parallels to modern-day American society. But setting aside the deeper meaning: the music is terrific, the characters are marvelous, and the story is full of the comic twists, turns and wordplay you expect from G&S. BWW Reviews: Lamplighter's MIKADO Nears Perfection

With beautiful, golden sets and a blessedly wonderful cast, the problem with Lamplighter's production of "The Mikado" does not result from a lack of talent. Actually, the production lacks very little and would verge on perfection if it weren't for slow comedic timing, missed opportunities for extra humor and a few occurrences of singing not in time with the orchestra. City Center will celebrate the 20th season of its acclaimed Tony Award-winning Encores! series on November 12 with a Gala benefit starring Raul Esparza and Kelli O'Hara. The Encores!
