OnThursday, June 19 at Lifestyle-Trimco Showroom in Manhattan, the companies will give a special performance of On Site's new production of Rameau's one-act Pygmalion for users of Google Glass. The story is about a prince and princess from two different kingdoms who were wed at infancy. While the prince anxiously anticipates meeting his now 21 year old bride, she has started a women's university, preaching the virtues of woman over man, and that 'man is nature's sole mistake'. When Princess Ida does not show up as agreed upon, Prince Hilarion and a couple of friends infiltrate the university as new students, and hilarity ensues. The two kings threaten war to solve the problem, the prince offers love. Ida must decide whether she can continue her noble experiment. (more...)

New York Philharmonic to Return to Bravo! Vail for 12th Annual Summer Residency, 7/18-25

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 12th- annual summer residency there, performing six concerts July 18-25, 2014. Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct three programs, July 18-20, featuring works by composers for whom he has advocated during his tenure, ranging from Nielsen to The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in- Residence Christopher Rouse. The other Philharmonic concerts will be conducted by Bramwell Tovey (July 23 and 25) and Ted Sperling (July 24), and will feature works by Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Loesser, among others. Pacific Opera Project to Present LA CALISTO

To conclude its third full season, Pacific Opera Project will present 6 performances of the Los Angeles Premiere of Francesco Cavalli's La Calisto written in 1651. POP will return to The Ebell Club of Highland Park for this intimate and dynamic production after 5 sold out performances of Carmen this past March. Staying true to their 'POP-Up' formula of staging and rehearsing the entire opera in just over a week featuring some of the best talent in the country, Pacific Opera Project will have performers singing right at your table as you're served a bottle of wine and tray of appetizers. POP has added an orchestra with period instruments to the 'POP-Up' model for La Calisto and has kept the tickets at the ridiculously low price of less than $30 per person. The whole evening has a party atmosphere as guests enjoy food, wine, and entertainment either from their tables near the stage or from single seats in the venue. (more...)
