Based on the play The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash

Adapted by Nash from his classic play "The Rainmaker," "110 in the Shade" tells the story of Lizzie Curry, a love-starved woman living on a rain-starved Texas ranch during the Depression. Lizzie likes to speak her mind, and she's plenty headstrong, but also lonely. Her father and brothers would like to see her hitched and happy, maybe to Sheriff File, who's become a brooding loner since his wife left him. Bursting with charisma, con-man Starbuck swaggers into town, promising rain to the drought-parched town, and a chance of romance for Lizzie.



"110 in the Shade" opened on Broadway 50 years ago on October 24, 1963, at the Broadhurst Theatre. Starring Inga Swenson as Lizzie and Will Geer as H.C. Curry and featuring the choreography of Agnes De Mille, the original production was nominated for four Tony Awards. The Roundabout Theater Company's 2007 revival starred Audra McDonald as Lizzie, Steve Kazee as Starbuck and John Cullum as H.C. Curry; it received five Tony nominations and won two Drama Desk awards for outstanding revival of a musical and for best actress in a musical.

Presented by Equity's National Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Committee, the award honors shows that exemplify and promote the union's founding principles of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity for all who work in the theatre. Accepting the award on behalf of the It Shoulda Been You producers and creative team was producer Daryl Roth. Also in attendance were cast members Edward Hibbert and Jillian Louis, director David Hyde Pierce, composer Barbara Anselmi, co-lyricist and librettist Brian Hargrove and the production's stage management team: Bess Marie Glorioso, Katherine Shea and Melanie Morgan. Rubicon Theatre Company's MY FAIR LADY Begins This Month

The director and designers behind Rubicon Theatre Company's acclaimed environmental productions ofFiddler on the Roof and Man of La Mancha have reunited on the two-piano chamber version of the legendary Lerner and Loewe's classic My Fair Lady. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, the musical tells the story of Professor Henry Higgins, an arrogant and attractive phonetician who makes a wager that he can transform a 'deliciously low' Cockney flower-seller (Eliza Doolittle) into an elegant lady by teaching her to speak more beautifully. The magnificent score includes 'I Could Have Danced All Night,' 'On the Street Where You Live,' 'Wouldn't It Be Loverly,' and 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.' For Rubicon's production, Director James O'Neil returns to the source material to explore the Shavian themes of class struggle, social reform and women's rights. (more...)

Actors Co-op (Ovation Award-Winner 2015 Best Intimate Theatre Musical for 110 in the Shade) is thrilled to announce the first show in its 2015-2016 season (and 24th year of producing theatrical excellence in Los Angeles!) with THE BAKER'S WIFE, book by Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof, Zorba), music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell), musical direction by Jake Anthony, choreography by Julie Hall, produced by Kimi Walker and directed by Ovation Award-winner Richard Israel (110 in the Shade, Floyd Collins). THE BAKER'S WIFE will preview on Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 17 at 8pm and will open on Friday, September 18 at 8pm and run through Sunday, October 25 at the Actors Co-op David Schall Theatre, 1760 N.
