The Tony Award-winning Manhattan Theatre Club (Peter J. Solomon, Chairman of the Board; Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) dedicated its Broadway theatre the 'Samuel J. Friedman Theatre' on Thursday, September 4. The ceremony began at the theatre (261 West 47th Street at 8th Avenue) . MTC previously announced that it was renaming its Broadway home, until now known as the Biltmore Theatre, the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in recognition of the pioneering Broadway publicist. 'Enter Laughing' Adds Special Performance in Memory of Bruce Adler

The YORK THEATRE COMPANY (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) will add a performance of its hit show, ENTER LAUGHING: THE MUSICAL, on Sunday September 21st at 8 pm, in memory of Bruce Adler, who played the role of Forman in York's two previous incarnations of Enter Laughing, The Musical-in the Fall 2007 Musicals in Mufti Series, and in December 2007, when the show was brought back for an additional weekend of performances. Mr. Adler died July 25th of liver cancer; he was 63 years old. 100% of the York's revenues from the performance will go to the Adler Family, supporting an educational fund for his three surviving children. Daytime and Broadway Actress Eileen Herlie Dies at 90

Daytime mainstay Eileen Herlie, who played the wise Myrtle Fargate for 32 years on ABC's 'All My Children,' died Wednesday, ABC has announced. Her death came from complications from pneumonia. She was 90 years old. (more...)

Review - Take Me Along - Flora, The Red Menace - Fabulous Divas of Broadway

1959 was a heck of a good year for Broadway overtures.  The majestic trumpet fanfare and lowdown bump and grind of Gypsy's is generally regarded as the best in musical theatre, but there was also the rousingly rhythmic curtain-raiser to Fiorello! and, my personal favorite, Philip J. Lang's beautiful interpretation of Bob Merrill's music for Take Me Along, which touches on so many moods of the show while continually building the toe-tapping climax of The catchy title tune. On Sunday, April 6, the proceeds from 'Take Me Along,' a musical by Robert Merill, Joseph Stein and Robert Russell, based on the book by Eugene O'Neill, will support the urgent needs of children who have been displaced by fighting throughout Kenya.
