The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre (BRIFT) recently announced its fall/winter schedule, which includes a new and exciting Writing the Feature Screenplay class for beginning writers on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The class was added due to the popularity of the Advanced Screenwriting class, which is held on Thursday evenings, also at 6:30 p.m. These conception to completion courses allow students to workshop their scripts by having them performed staged reading style by other students. Taught by Shawn Fornari, M.F.A., each two and a half hour class is $20.00. (more...)

Berkshire Theatre Group has announced that it is the recipient of the Massachusetts' Cultural Council's Youth Reach Grant which will fund BTG PLAYS! partnering with JRC Youth. BTG PLAYS! with JRC Youth will provide twelve at-risk teens from Pittsfield's Juvenile Resource Center with theatre skills to build confidence and communication ability, and will train them to be assistant teachers/mentors for children in BTG playwriting residencies. To launch the 140th anniversary season of the Oratorio Society of New York, the city's second-oldest cultural organization still performing, OSNY Music Director Kent Tritle has created an all-American program about "American aesthetics, history, and experience": music by Charles Ives and Aaron Copland and the New York premiere of a 2008 oratorio about an 1888 American tragedy. "American Voices" takes place on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Carnegie Hall, and features arrangements for chorus and orchestra of selections from Copland's Old American Songs and three songs by Charles Ives; Copland's "The Promise of Living" from The Tender Land; and the New York premiere of Paul Moravec's The Blizzard Voices, a work based on poetry by former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser about the Great Plains blizzard of 1888.
