Mame - 2006 - Washington, DC (Regional) History , Info & More

Kennedy Center [Eisenhower Theatre]
2700 F Street, NW Washington, DC 20566

Based on the novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis

Based on the play Auntie Mame by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee

“Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!” So says the aunt we all wished we had, Auntie Mame. This adored character of theatrical literature comes to the Lyric stage for the first time in Jerry Herman’s delightful musical “Mame.” Join Mame as she leads her young nephew Patrick through life in New York during the depression era; traveling and growing into a young man as Mame struggles to be a fit mother. Andrea Huber (Desireé Armfeldt from “A Little Night Music”) will be our Mame and Leigh Scarritt (Aunt Alicia from “Gigi”) is featured as her actress friend, Vera Charles. “Mame” features a great score including “Open A New Window,” “We Need A Little Christmas,” “You’re My Best Girl,” “Bosom Buddies,” and of course the title song, “Mame.” Don’t miss this family treat

Review - Marilyn Maye & Michael Garin and Mardie Millit
by Michael Dale - Oct 11, 2010

This past Friday afternoon I read that this person has been meeting with producers to consider the possibility of appearing on Broadway, in order to, 'expand her brand by taking to the stage.'  That evening I heard the 82-year-old Marilyn Maye, after nearly ninety minutes of superlative interpretations of musical theatre classics from the likes of Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser and Kander and Ebb, tell her completely enthralled audience that it's still her ambition to one day be on Broadway, before emoting a beautifully vulnerable 'Losing My Mind' that segued into a classy and celebratory 'I'm Still Here' that brought just about the entire packed Metropolitan Room house to its feet in one of the most adoring ovations I've ever seen.

by Robert Diamond - Sep 26, 2010

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced back in August that Bernadette Peters will star as Sally Durant Plummer in the Kennedy Center production of Follies in the Eisenhower Theater May 7 to June 5, 2011. Additionally, BroadwayWorld.com had heard that starring alongside Peters could be Sex and the City star and Golden Globe winner Kim Cattrall as Phyllis, Danny Burstein as Buddy and John Dossett as Ben, all of whom were cast and were then in contract negotiations. We've now heard from reliable sources that neither Cattrall or Dossett were able to work out their contract deals for the production and that both sides have moved in. Now said to be in talks? First lady of the British Musical Theatre Elaine Paige and Linda Lavin, who was most recently a 2010 Tony nominee for Collected Stories. More information to come soon...
