The Old Globe today shared its 2016 Summer Season, which will feature new and familiar works directed by four major American stalwarts. The season features the welcome return of Steve Martin (Bright Star) with the World Premiere of his new play Meteor Shower, an adult comedy, directed by Gordon Edelstein, in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where he serves as Artistic Director. Paul Gordon's musical Sense and Sensibility will have its West Coast premiere, presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it had its world premiere in February 2015, directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines. The Summer Shakespeare Festival will include Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, and Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 28, 2015) Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) announced today that it will honor the multi-talented actress, singer, philanthropist and Las Vegas headliner Olivia Newton-John as Woman of the Year for the 32nd Annual Black & White Ball.  With more than 100 million albums sold, her successes include four Grammys, numerous Country Music, American Music, Billboard and People's Choice Awards, an Emmy Award, ten #1 hits (including “Physical,” which topped the charts for ten consecutive weeks) and more than 15 top 10 singles. In 1978, her co-starring role with John Travolta in “Grease” catapulted her into super-stardom and to date remains the most successful movie musical of all time.  Newton-John's many contributions to the performing arts and entertainment industry as well as her tireless charitable efforts will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23 at Wynn Las Vegas.

The Writers Guild of America, West will honor late screenwriter-director-actor-producer Harold Ramis with its Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement at the Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 14. Erica Mann Ramis and family will accept the award on his behalf.

The Brick launches its first education program in 2014 with BRICK U. A dedicated workshop setting with expert teachers, the program offers unique, low-cost training in crucial arts-related skills unavailable in large universities. Classes are small and take place in The Brick performance space at 579 Metropolitan Avenue, in W illiamsburg, Brooklyn. From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

Acclaimed director, actor, and teacher Thomas G. Waites is currently directing THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, being produced by the Baruch College of Performing Arts and the Thomas G. Waites Acting Studio. The production opened on July 10th and is schedule to run through August 3rd. Waites took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld this week about the production. He also shared wisdom on his many years of experience in the business, as well as his career as a teacher.

A year ago this summer (July 31, to be exact), Terri White performed a one-off show at 54 Below that was so stirring in its show-woman ship she was voted the winner of the 2013 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Award for 'Best One-Show Special Event.' Based on the Broadway and nightclub veteran's performance in her recent June 22 show at the same club, White should be a candidate to pick up the award once again this year. Maybe it's time to just call her, 'Terri Terrific.'

America loves cars, big or beautiful cars, and the late playwright James McLure uses a classical 1959 Thunderbird as a metaphor for his two one act plays In Tandem Theater blends into their season ending selection: 1959 Pink Thunderbird. These two one act plays directed by both Jane and Chris Flieller feature a feminine version and a masculine perspective on why the ionic pink T-bird, often immortalized in such songs as “Fun, Fun, Fun” by the Beach Boys, became romantic inspiration for hometown stories and legends, including those in Maynard, Texas, circa 1978.

Richard E Grant will appear 'as live' on stage interacting with the real actors in a never seen before 3D hologram effect - a first for a theatrical production. So, after trashing Mormonism, and by implication most other faiths (since most have foundational myths about as likely-sounding as the LDS ones, and taboos that are no less but also no more sensible than those which restrain the Mormons), there are two natural places to end up. One would be in some kind of existential humanism, the other in some kind of existential despair. But the creators don't want to go either place. So they have to fudge it, with a huge spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down and a philosophically confused but dramatically permissible twist. There is some kind of reason for the whole cast and the audience to be exultant at the end.

Louise Dearman will lead the cast of the world premiere of a brand new musical inspired by Charles Kingsley's classic novel, The Water Babies. The first actress to have played both Glinda and Elphaba in the global smash-hit musical Wicked, Dearman makes her Curve debut as Mrs D.
