The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced that tickets will go on sale tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9, for BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, the critically acclaimed rock musical that played a sold-out run last spring as part of the Public's Public LAB season.

Reprise Theatre Company presents Audra McDonald in Concert for one performance only on Monday, February 1 at 8:30 pm, at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. This hilarious fantasia on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins stars acclaimed opera singer Constance Hauman as ‘Florence' and award-winning stage and screen actor Brent Schindele as her bewildered accompanist ‘Cosme McMoon'.

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will continue its Marx Theatre season with best-selling author Walter Mosley and his first-ever play, THE FALL OF HEAVEN. This hip and inventive new play will receive its world premiere at the Playhouse January 23rd through February 20th.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to swim in a giant martini? The SpyAnts Theatre Company presents the long-awaited Los Angeles premiere of Charles L. Mee's delightful, kaleidoscopic play, 'bobrauschenbergamerica'.  Director Bart DeLorenzo teams up with choreographer Ken Roht to dish up Mee's rollicking collage-montage tribute to Robert Rauschenberg that captures the happy, improvisational quality of the artist's singular vision. 'bobrauschenbergamerica' opens at [Inside] the Ford on January 23, with Pay-What-You-Can previews on January 21 and 22.

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) continues its 2009/2010 Season with the World Premiere of A COOL DIP IN THE BARREN SAHARAN CRICK, a new play by Kia Corthron (Breath, Boom at Playwrights Horizons/PH, Force Continuum), directed by Obie Award winner Chay Yew (Durango at The Public).

A matchless quintet of interlinked plays by Britain's best-loved comic playwright, illustrates the hilarious consequences of not listening to one another.  Ayckbourn's overlapping characters are alternately naturalistic and farcical - quirky, neurotic, self-important, and hysterical.  Whether the comedy concerns marital conflict, infidelity, motherhood, or manhood; is set on a park bench or at a village fete, the characters reveal a LOL timeless familiarity in their desperation to make contact with one another. Ayckbourn's American premiere of 'Confusions' will be staged by the Lost Studio from January 15 - March 7, 2010 in Los Angeles.

It has been quite a year for Diane Paulus. Already an internationally acclaimed freelance director for nearly 10 years, Paulus began 2008 in London directing the opera LOST HIGHWAY at the Young Vic. HAIR was on the docket for Shakespeare in the Park summer season. And then came the phone call asking if this soon-to-explode director was interested in throwing her hat in the ring for the job of Artistic Director at the famed A.R.T. Theatre in Boston.

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

The shows to be presented will include Like Water for Chocolate, A Thousand Words Come to Mind, and Kansas City Choirboy. South African performance artist and satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys (pronounced Ace) is coming to Los Angeles October 2-19, 2009 for a short-term residency at the Art | Global Health Center at UCLA in the Department of World Arts and Cultures.

South Coast Repertory kicks off the 2009-10 Season with Putting It Together, a compilation of Stephen Sondheim songs, that the composer put together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, creating a narrative set at a cocktail party in an elegant Manhattan condo. The non-traditional musical, led by Broadway and television star Harry Groener, has a cast of five (a glamorous but slightly jaded couple, a starry-eyed younger couple and a savvy observer) who sing more than 30 songs that reflect their lives, lifestyles and moods of the moment. Some of the songs will be familiar, some less so, a few were even cut from their original musical scores, but they are all sophisticated, smart and drop-dead droll. All, in other words, Sondheim.

SAMMY, a new musical about the life of Sammy David Jr. currently in previews at The Old Globe, is gearing up for it's much anticipated opening on October 2nd and the buzz has begun. After all, what $2.5-million production about an icon with a 13-piece orchestra and list of award-winning actors wouldn't generate excitement?
