The New York Post reports that famed composer Stephen Sondheim surprised the cast of Roundabout Theatre Company's small-scale production of INTO THE WOODS with some musical tips prior to opening night.

After seeing the new INTO THE WOODS movie twice over the holidays, I posted on Twitter about how two of the songs had stuck with me. After a tweet conversation, my BWW colleague Jeff Walker and I decided to put our heads together to try and come up with a list of Sondheim's most hummable tunes. Despite not discussing it beforehand, Jeff ended up picking songs from the 1960s and 70s, and I filled in the gaps with numbers from the 80s and 90s.

Stephen Sondheim displays his work of whimsy and intellectual legerdemain on Into The Woods, and Masterworks Broadway has just pulled new photos from the MWB vault featuring Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason and others from the original Broadway cast recording session. Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of the movie tie-in edition of Into the Woods, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The screen adaptation of the classic musical is being released by Disney Pictures on December 25, 2014. This new edition includes eight full-color pages of photos from the movie.

Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (MCT) celebrates the holiday season with THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) [REVISED]. Ray Jivoff directs this literary romp featuring Chris Klopatek, Rick Pendzich, Chase Stoeger and Marcus Truschinski.
