BWW Review: SWEENEY TODD Makes the Cut at Academy Playhouse
by Kristen Morale - Oct 16, 2015

With score and lyrics by the [in]famous Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, Director Peter Earle brings Sweeney Todd to the town of Orleans, enshrouding the Academy Playhouse's intimate black-box theater in darkness as black as the hearts of many of the characters that make this show of such a menacing nature. Continuing in the tradition of producing quality theater for forty years and following a successful summer season, Earle's creative vision brings yet another production to unforgettable heights, proving to both loyal theater-goers and those who happened to be on Cape for the holiday weekend that the Academy does not play around when it comes to extracting the absolute rawness of a show and putting in on stage in a way that keep audiences coming back for more.

BWW Review: Street Theatre Company's DOGFIGHT
by Jeffrey Ellis - Jun 7, 2015

It's 1967 and a young Marine, returning from a life-changing experience in Vietnam, is on a bus bound for San Francisco, the site of his last hurrah in 1963: a momentous night before he shipped out for Okinawa in the company of friends and cohorts with whom he'd created a bond he thought would last forever. That initial scene in Dogfight – the hit off-Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Peter Duchan, based upon a little-known movie of the same name that starred River Phoenix and Lili Taylor – serves as a gateway to the story of Eddie Birdlace and his fellow Marines and a winsome, idealistic young woman who left her imprint on his heart despite his best efforts to forget her.

Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents SWAN LAKE Tonight
by BWW News Desk - Apr 10, 2015

SEATTLE, WA - Pacific Northwest Ballet's Swan Lake, choreographed by Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell, returns to the McCaw Hall stage as the fifth offering of PNB's 2014-15 season. This beloved story ballet, revered by audiences and dancers alike, is classical ballet at its very best. Sumptuous scenery, costumes, and lighting, and an achingly beautiful Tchaikovsky score, set the stage for the ethereal corps de ballet and the ultimate challenge for ballerinas all over the world—the dual role of Odette, trapped in the body of a white swan until the oath of her true love sets her free; and Odile, the “Black Swan” temptress. With an added performance on opening weekend, Swan Lake runs for nine performances only, from tonight, April 10 through 19 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.

BWW Reviews: JERSEY BOYS - An Electrifying Entertaining Evening
by Frank Benge - Mar 27, 2015

The 60's were an exciting time for music in America, due in no small part to the proliferation of groups with amazing vocal harmonies like The Mamas & Papas, The Beach Boys, Spanky & Our Gang and The Four Seasons. JERSEY BOYS is a jukebox musical based on the song catalog of The Four Seasons; however, unlike most jukebox musicals, JERSEY BOYS features an intelligent script where the songs flow with the story instead of being forced into a storyline. I suspect the participation of Rick Elice, who was also one of the scriptwriters for the charming and witty PETER AND THE STARCATCHER had more than a little to do with the intelligence and theatrical storytelling skill on display here.
