Inspired by environmentalist Rachel Carson (a native of Springdale, Pa.), the new opera features music by acclaimed New York-based composer Gilda Lyons and a libretto by award-winning Pittsburgh playwright Tammy Ryan.

The ProMusica Chamber Orchestra is beating the doldrums of winter by moving its annual Soirée up in the calendar to February. This year, ProMusica will be joined by Igudesman & Joo, a violin and piano duo who have fused classical music and sketch comedy theatrics in the style of Victor Borge and Dudley Moore. Igudesman & Joo have performed their theatrical shows with orchestras worldwide, including their “BIG Nightmare Music” show that they are bringing to ProMusica.

The San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival will celebrate the centennial of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 2015 with a series of world dance and music performances and events from February to December. The annual, month-long Festival in June will serve as the celebration's centerpiece, and will be set in the only grand structure remaining from the historic 1915 world's fair, the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre. New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced that its 2014 Spring Gala will honor Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff and President of The Dodgers Michael David. Both are founding partners of Dodger Properties, which is responsible for over 150 productions of some of the most successful theatre on Broadway (56 Tony Awards), Off-Broadway and internationally. The gala will take place on Monday, May 12 at The Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel, beginning at 6:30pm.
