The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the West Coast premiere of Faceless by award-winning playwright Selina Fillinger (The Armor Plays: Cinched/Strapped, Something Clean), which was presented in the 2019 Powers New Voices Festival and will be directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch (the Globe's The Last Match and also Off Broadway, Bethany, and The Blameless). Faceless runs March 28 - April 26, 2020 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Previews run March 28 - April 1, with opening night on Thursday, April 2, at 8:00 p.m. Single tickets are on sale now, starting at $30.00, and can be purchased online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE [234-5623], or by visiting the Box Office at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. Following its run at the Globe, Faceless will tour to four Community Partner venues with our free Globe for All program from April 30 to May 3.
National tensions swirl around the trial of Susie Glenn, an American teenager who left her home and family to join ISIS. Federal prosecutor Claire Fathi takes the case despite being reluctant to have her own gender and Muslim faith exploited in the name of justice. The Chicago Tribune exclaims that
Selina Fillinger "can pack more moment-by-moment tension into a play than most playwrights ever manage in their careers." This West Coast premiere etches compelling, complex portraits of a troubled young woman, her father, and the attorneys who battle over her future.
The cast includes Carolyn Kettig as Susie Glenn (A Midsummer Night's Dream and Henry V at The Public Theater), Jeff Marlow as Mark Arenberg (Broadway's Junk, series regular on "BrainDead" and "Mercy"), Rod McLachlan as Alan Glenn (Broadway's The Audience, Julius Caesar at New York Shakespeare Festival, Holiday, and Death and the King's Horseman), Roxanna Hope Radja as Claire Fathi (Broadway's Torch Song, Frost/Nixon, After the Fall, The Women, and Boeing-Boeing), and Charlie Semine as Scott Bader (Henry IV in Los Angeles and Junk, Hollywood, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Sideways at La Jolla Playhouse).
The creative team includes Lawrence E. Moten III (Scenic Design),
Emilio Sosa (Costume Design),
Oona Curley (Lighting Design),
Leon Rothenberg (Sound Design),
David Huber (Dialect and Voice Coach),
Caparelliotis Casting (Casting), and Marie Jahelka (Production Stage Manager).
"Faceless promises to be a highlight of this season at the Globe," said
Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director
Barry Edelstein. "A viscerally exciting evening of theatre that explores topical themes of justice, identity, and family, it's both a courtroom drama and a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller. Its talented writer,
Selina Fillinger, is already blazing a trail through the American theatre, and I'm delighted to welcome her to the Globe family. That family already boasts one of our country's most imaginative directors, GT Upchurch, who returns here for yet another superb production. Together these two very talented artists demonstrate just how exhilarating live theatre can be, and we're happy to share their work with our audiences."
