Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre presents the premiere of one-act ballets «XIX / XX / XXI. Three centuries, three ballets, three styles "

"Conservatory" with choreography by Danish choreographer August Bournonville - a classic masterpiece, an example of a rigorous academic. This is one of the oldest ballets, dating from 1848. Yekaterinburg theater show viewers just the most interesting part - Divertimento, which is a lesson of classical dance. See in theatrical form, as artists polish their skills in ballet halls, will certainly be interesting to everyone. Of course, Bournonville's choreography gives an idea looked like a ballet lesson in the XIX century, but it must be said that, with regard to the classics, since then, little has changed.

It puts ballet Dean Byrne Larsen, a recognized expert on heritage August Bournonville, the representative of the famous ballet dynasty in the past - the soloist of the Royal Danish Ballet. Not only that, but her father was engaged in research work Bournonville, so that our artists have received this choreography, as they say, "at first hand". The creators of the set design and costumes have become the artists of the Bolshoi Theater Russian Alona Pikalova and Elena Zaitseva, which the public remembers of successful work in the ballet "La Bayadere".

"Five Tango" to the music of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla staged by Hans van Manen first enters the repertoire of the Russian theater (world premiere took place in 1977 in Amsterdam). Choreographer Hans van Manen - one of the pillars of European neo-classical dance, and that his statement has become a classic of the twentieth century. It is distinguished by a completely different style, a different aesthetic - external purity form, conciseness, minimalism. In all of this dance van Manen has a strong internal stress and thus wins. "Five Tango" - a ballet of smoldering passion boiling inside and outside is very low-key. "Hot Ice - so succinctly be described style of Van Manen. It is the northern, the European perception of Argentine tango - a dance, like a block of ice that slowly melts from within ", - says the artistic director of Ballet Theater Vyacheslav Samodurov.

Mea Venema, the Dutch assistant choreographer for the first time worked with the Russian troupe on the production of "Five tangos." Mea danced in twenty-three ballets Van Manen, most of which were set for her. She also participated in productions of Jiri Kylian, John Butler, Jerome Robbins and many other prominent European choreographers. After completing his performing career, Mea Venema completely devoted herself to Hans van Manen choreography - for thirty years, she has taught his style of dancers around the world. He rehearsed with the Ekaterinburg artists and the National Ballet of the Netherlands Prime Minister Alexander Zhembrovsky.

Artist ZhanPol Vroom is the author of set design and costumes, the first production of "Five tangos." In the workshop of the Dutch theater created samples, which in the workshops of the theater have made costumes for all participants in the Ekaterinburg statement. Jan Hofstra reproduced the light of the performance score.

"Santus Arsticus" put the artistic director of Ballet Theater Vyacheslav Samodurov. Actually, it is the product of contemporary Finnish composer Rautavaara Eynoyuhani - unusual symphonic works, which uses a recording of singing arctic birds.

Work continues as if the theme "Five Tango" - a ballet about self-control and restraint of emotions, the complexities of relationships, fine fantasy on the theme of sensuality.

"Santus Arsticus" with Vyacheslav Samodurov trained British designer Anthony Makilueyn already known Yekaterinburg audiences for his work on the show "Amore Vuffo" and costume designer of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Elena Zaitseva.

Music Director premiere - chief conductor of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre, conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Pavel Klinichev.

The "complete" product represented a landmark and cover almost the entire history of classical technique and style: from classics ranneromantichneskoy (August Bournonville) - a neo-classical with elements of expressionism (Hans van Manen) - and postklassike (Vyacheslav Samodurov). All three artists handed "first hand" native style. Classical "conservatives" carried Dina Byrne, the world-renowned expert on Bournonville heritage, "Five Tango" - the chief and assistant chief, to date, the Executive Van Manen, Mea Venema and Alexander Zhembrovskim; «Cantus Arsticus" - of course, the original work. Another remarkable feature three performances: modern and impressive design. By creating scenic pictures (without the Old Testament cartoon backdrops and gilded cardboard), and suits brought, without undue modesty, theater artists, "first hand": Alona Pikalova Anthony Makilueyn and Elena Zaitseva.

Finally, all three plotless ballet. Rather, besfabulny choreography avoids as an illustrator of some melodramatic twists and turns of the strings to the denouement. The event becomes the dance itself - and caught up in its core aspects of human relationships (love, of course).
Natalia Kuryumova, theater critic

The final evening ballet «Cantus arcticus» is the "here and now", the world premiere choreography Samodurov music contemporary Finnish composer Rautavaara Eynoyuhani using in postimpressionist score record birdsong. Music imbued with natural grandeur of northern nature, scream, and calls of unknown birds, give it a mystical unreality (conductor Paul Klinichev). The stage is empty and transparent as ice, heel constantly changes its color tone and internal contours (British designer Anthony Makilueyn). Against this background, the dancers in the conventional ballet uniform incredibly bright colors (Elena Zaitseva) look like exotic birds. Fragility and brittleness of plastic, bizarre position dictated not only by the usual ballet association with fine feathered, but with flashes of the Northern Lights, with bewitching beauty of northern landscapes. Its very beautiful ballet choreographer frames prologue and epilogue to the music of Handel clavier, which appear almost real characters, a pair of lovers, whose destiny - to find common ground and a way to each other.
