Opera "Snow Maiden", with its pagan cult poetry, epic power of the merger between man and nature, divinely intoxicating hymn to the beauty and love of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov considered his best creation. "Snow Maiden" strikes a surprisingly sensitive, loving reproduction paintings of folk life, rites of ancient paganism, miraculously folk tales.

In May of 1880, "in this Russian village" Stel?vo, under the Arc, he settled with his family in the summer Rimsky-Korsakov, in love with the story "Snow Maiden". Lovely groves, fields of rye and buckwheat - all in harmony with his then pantheistic mood. "What a thick and gnarled bough or stump, moss-grown, seemed to me leshim or housing; Forest "Vovchynets" - reserved forest; Nude Kopytetskaya Hill - Yarilin mountain triple echo heard from our balcony, as the voice of devils and other monsters "- confessed later Rimsky-Korsakov in his memoirs," Chronicle of My Musical Life. " In two and a half months (June - mid August), the composer wrote a sketch (the prologue and four acts) of its lyric opera. It is interesting that the first time around - in 1874 - Ostrovsky little like Rimsky-Korsakov; but returned to it in the winter 1879-80, the composer "just an amazing sight to its poetic beauty," as he wrote about it in the "Chronicle of My Musical Life." Beauty plays fabulousness AN Ostrovsky and those two worlds - and the magic of the earth, where it takes effect; the beauty of its main ideas: the eternal indestructible harmony and harsh laws of nature, according to which should take place and the human being.

Scenic fate "Snow Maiden" is ambiguous. The premiere, which took place at the Mariinsky Theatre January 29, 1882, Rimsky-Korsakov brought more frustration than satisfaction. Neither luxury setting (which management has spent about forty thousand) than ever before in Russian operas, no successful execution could not reconcile the composer with cuts made at the insistence of the conductor EF Napravnik.

Recognition and love of the public came to "Snow Maiden" later, and even during his lifetime, she became the repertoire of his operas.

Scenic history of opera theater in Yekaterinburg has six productions (1913, 1924, 1926, 1935, 1944 and 1969). House reiterates its call to the opera score Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, enriching his Russian operatic repertoire best works of the composer.

The performance of the Ekaterinburg Theatre - a performance of the fallen to Earth beautiful star, which turned out to people in the world, broke something usual order of their life, it's springtime tale that is of interest to both adults and children. Stage version of the play as a whole meets the composer's idea, no "remaking classics", performance is quite traditional. Although this does not mean that the world of modern man does not impact on this production. Said, just not at the level of external od?zhek, but at the level of accommodation. It is a tradition that goes back to what we call the Silver Age, the exhibitions that are organized Diaghilev, his Russian Seasons in Paris, is a "new art", is modern. Just not the "modern", we are talking about today, not those performances that we now call "modern style". This modern, which is really reinvents the classic forms of fine art and art history in general, is the best pearl necklace, time-tested performances. By this formulation, to a large extent motivated scenography Igor Ivanov: The famous St. Petersburg artist created on stage and mysterious winter forest thickets, and ancient towers kingdom Berendeys alongside heroes in simple clothes with the national colors and a magical characters giving the silver-gleaming paint. And so the tone was consonant with the wise and fresh beauty of folk songs, lyrical arias, poetry of action, imbued with pagan joy merge with nature, and its naive deification: "In Yekaterinburg" Snow Maiden "Ivanov appealed to the style of Vasnetsov and Bilibin, but not created styling and an impressive self-statement. He came up with a combined game space with an octagonal podium, the altar in the middle, carved pillars at the edges of the stage and scenery enchanting beauty in the background from which the characters appear on stage. Costumes also in "Snow Maiden", each of which in terms of taste and quality of performance worthy of the museum showcases arts and crafts, were grouped by shades of color and texture so that exactly correspond to the nature of the colorful orchestration of Rimsky-Korsakov. It is this scenographic approach to the interpretation of the opera, which almost no modern theater enjoys success created the play, and "Snow Maiden", maybe for the first time in its history, won a convincing decision stage. "
