In Verdi year Ekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre has also become a party to the anniversary of the marathon. This opera is released from all Heritage Verdi. Composer managed to lay in it and drama, and vocal delights. He used the vocals and music to express the dramatic situation, while making the most compact material. Emotions arise here and now, the situation is deployed rapidly, requiring performers on stage instant reaction.
We considered several options works by Verdi, but settled on "Othello" - dramaturgic perfectly constructed opera compared with what was previously created by the composer. Verdi worked in great detail on the libretto, eliminating all secondary to his concept line, leaving only a few characters centered relationships. "Othello" is not like the fact that the composer wrote before, this is not the Verdi, which we know from "La Traviata" and "Aida." I always say the soloists, the music in this opera is not born in the orchestra, and comes from the thoughts, emotions, impulse, born within the character.
My task as a director - to convey the internal tension that arises in the relationship heroes of this opera. However, no matter what I did, constantly catch myself on the fact that this or that thought can not find an equivalent expression in the mise en scene - you want it aggregated by adding something else. But then comes the understanding that all the magic of this opera - in simplicity, and all the most important thing is manifested in attitudes, born of misunderstanding, reticence - and it arises from this tension.
Today's "Othello" can not be just a beautiful picture - there must be a reason, and not simple, and sacred. In another way, it does not, because the audience sitting in the hall, everyone can see, hear and feel the skin. Fortunately, the opera house is still perhaps the most direct impact on the audience!
