"Boris Godunov" - a work still excites us, forcing the experience, reflect. Opera of the crisis - and it is inherent in the story. We are talking about a crisis in relations between the government and the people, prompted by a change of dynasty - as a result of the people no longer trust the authorities and respect her. I would like to play our characters were recognizable to the front of the auditorium turned living history. Not limited by some timeframes, telling not only about Boris Godunov, who was, but that Boris Godunov to be.
It's such a dystopia. There is no specific time - this hypothetical future, which may occur during the development of certain circumstances.
Structure, which you see on the stage, do not exist - it invented an art object. Features of this architecture can be found in ancient temples, fortresses, and it is possible in the modern industrial design. We often happened that the church made from a warehouse, and from kindergarten - shop. In short, it is a building, causing associations connected with the past and the present and perhaps the future.
Heroes of opera - live forever, changing all the time, and if so - you need on the scene as something to match what is happening in the world, in our lives. Today, it's hard to imagine people in fur coats and hats, which pass from the Assumption Cathedral in Arkhangelsk and back to the Assumption, and the pathos brilliant opera goes walking and shaking it beards. For me it's a sham, a lie. There is another option "of hiding" - put on all jeans, hand on the laptop and make a slice of life - a newspaper, "Euronews". I also think it is unconvincing. "Boris Godunov" - it is not ephemeral, it's deep, the essential thing, which has a lot of dark and mysterious places, which, I think, and should remain there. As in Shakespeare: "There are more things on earth, Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophy" But some important, essential aspects of our mentality, relationships with each other, adults and children, the authorities with the people throughout Russian history remain topical themes.
In preparing the play I had no problem shock. It is possible that in the course of the works and performances during rehearsals there were some episodes that can be treated as outrageous. But they were born an attempt to make the most powerful artistic impression, to reach the main in search of meaning.
